Hi guys,

I have a 2021 Taycan while my friend has a 2020 Taycan. We noticed the difference. Mine has an extra row of buttons on the screen:
Navi, Music, Phone, Car.

He upgraded his software recently, but he's still missing those buttons.
I wonder if there's a way to bring them up on his 2020 car. Maybe it's just a setting somewhere?

Please see both screens side by side below and thank you for your advices in advance!

It is not an update.

He has to pull down on the three lines (aka the hamburgr) below sync and the additional line will appear.

they are only displayed when the car is in P.

There's a hamburger on my screen, but my friend's Taycan doesn't have it. Please see how it looks on the second photo above. The picture was taken in P.

Are you sure his was in P, as he doesn't have the option to open the trunk/frunk from there. I think that also only becomes available in P.

As others have pointed out this 'extra" row is available on all model years and has been since the Taycan was launched.

Car must be stationary and in P before you get the option to display the additional row (which now displays Android Auto or Apple CarPlay when active).

Consult the owners manual if in doubt.

At risk of labouring the point – has to be in "P" park – stopped and in "Hold" is not enough for the hamburger menu slider to be able to move.

There is a strange bug where if you are in Drive but in "Hold" the menu slider appears but cannot be moved.

And while we're talking about that area – I wish they'd replace – or give the option to – the handwriting area – with track forward/back buttons.

Being right-handed and driving on the left with steering wheel on the right – makes the handwriting input totally useless for me. Is it useful for anyone?

Seems like it was the "cool" thing to have back in 2018 when this was being developed before release.

I am ambidextrous but my handwriting with left hand is like a child's.

I don't think hand writing on a touch screen, even with one's "good" hand, is a viable option in a moving car anyway.

I had intended to use the writing recognition but can't keep my hand still enough for it to be any use.

OK when stationary, but so is anything else. I may have to get used to feeling like a complete idiot and talk to the f*cking thing.

I am old, my son looks at me all strange when I say I feel stupid talking to a "thing".

When my Dad (in his mid 70s) on his first time in a Taycan heard me say to the car (not Siri, using Porsche voice control and built-in Apple Music player): "Play Elvis" and it did – he was blown away!

Context: I remember in the 80s – anytime he'd get a new car – he'd buy a new Elvis compilation tape to go along with it.

My first experience was with my uncle in his S-class Merc. He was giving me a lift to the airport on his way to work and when he starteds talking I assumed it was to me...

Fairly redundant really plus I struggle with OCD as it is and the prospect of more smears on the screen fills me with dread!

I'm a leftie (special therefore) so can use it but rarely if ever.

I'm not quite in your age category but I also hate talking to my devices. However, I switched from Android to an iPhone in anticipation of using Taycan's wireless CarPlay (still waiting, but car on a boat now). Then I read your post saying I must enable Siri, so I figured I'd give it a go and see. I still hated it. However, I got a pair of AirPods Pro for Christmas, so I swapped out my Galaxy buds (which worked with the iPhone just fine, but so Siri I think) for when I go walking outdoors. First, the noise canceling is amazing, as is the transparency mode I use when walking, but that's just a side note. It automatically enabled Siri. I was walking in the cold and rain and I got a message from my wife. First, Siri read it to me so I didn't have to dig up my phone. Then I was able to respond quickly without pulling out my phone. HEY! That was actually useful! I realized that I can do the same with the Apple Watch (which I also only got this Christmas) when I was driving in my Tesla which was recently serviced and I didn't realize that wiped the phone BT pairing. I still don't talk to it for anything else, but for receiving and doing quick replies to messages while I'm not able to pick up the phone I started to find it useful! It's a start I guess. At least I will be able to set it up when I pick up my Taycan next month ? I might drive it home (3,000 miles / 4,800km), so having my messages read and respond via voice could come handy when driving for hours. Maybe I'll get used to talking to the car too, who knows.

It's lovely for left handers like me, same as manual gear changes too, always that bit slicker in a RHD car when you're a lefty. I fond the touchpad on the dial in the i3 super slick for entering postcodes/addresses as it was better positioned than the trackpad in the Taycan.

Haven't used the Porsche voice control but the Siri interface is superb even compared to the ID3. I use it all the time to send/listen/reply to Whatsapps/iMessages.

I use Siri for music and phone calls etc. the nav is pretty reasonable at recognising destinations using voice, but at least we have a decent touchscreen if needed and generally I’m entering a destination when parked up anyway.

Siri is something I use all the time at home. Timers on my watch or phone, alarm setting. I’ve HomePods that trigger other speakers so I use voice to control them and it’s pretty flawless (especially when you consider environmental noise/interference), plus a lot of our lights use home automation which has Apple Home/Siri integration.

Thank you all for suggestions and ideas. My friend still struggles to find that hamburger button on his car. I wonder if there's an option somewhere that enables/disables it.
