Possible Fix: Whistling noise at 50mph

Had this whistling noise issue that others here have noted. It would start at around 35mph and persist until I went over 60 and then it would go away. Tried all sorts of things, took it to the dealer twice. At first they didn't hear it so just gave me the car back, second time I drove with the tech and he could hear it, but said it was the PPF and the only possible solution would be to remove the PPF. I found it unlikely that the tiny little nanometer edge of the PPF would be the cause. It was obviously some kind of whistling sound coming from inside the front of the car.

Saw a thread here where they adjusted the hood/apron gap. Tech here took a look and couldn't see any way to make any adjustments there so claimed that thread was BS.

So I got some very thin 1 inch wide and 1/16th inch thick (less than 2mm thick) insulation tape and ran it along the inside front of the frunk right where the hood is supposed to sit flush. Frunk closes without any issues, no gaps of any kind. Whistling noise is completely gone.

I’m going to try this tomorrow on my car. I have that same whistle and it’s driving me nuts and the dealers refuse to even try to diagnose it, just saying “sounds normal”

Well went ahead and got the same tape and applied it where you advised - just one strip (very thin indeed) and was a bit skeptical TBH given the thickness - on first 15 min test run I heard no whistling , BUT way too early to count as a definitive solution as I need to do a lot more driving to declare a fix; from my experience I've only heard the whistling intermittently up til now i.e. it was never a 'constant' so again, more testing needed - will be excellent if this truly does it!

For me it didn't fix the primary motor whine, but it does make it seem quieter on the highway overall, though I'd need to do some dB tests back to back.

I believe that this fix is not addressing ‘motor whine’ but simply wind generated whistling that folk thought emanated from various places (passenger windows, mirrors etc) but which in fact bizarrely enough may be caused by airflow entering through the hood gap and creating a noise effect that is channeling into the cabin.

This is my 4S CT AFTER a rear transmission drive unit change. Horrendous drone in 1st gear from 50 to 70mph…in the video, at 4 seconds it changes from 1st to 2nd and at 20 seconds it changes back to 1st. Is this similar/worse than others… sport and sport+ are a no go.

Nick, that's exactly the noise my '21 had 2 months after delivery. Noise still present after drive unit replacement. Porsche needs to evaluate and remedy this yesterday. No bueno.....

Really pizzed off!!… this is after them having the car for 2.5 months fixing the problem!!!. On the phone again tomorrow!!..
