After the heater failure and 4 weeks to wait for the part - I traded it in for a M8. Miss the car and hate going to gas stations now.. but anyways, when my car was 'appraised' for trade in, the charger was not in the car.. and now that it has made it to the Porsche dealer (The one I bought it from) he wants the charger (Both BMW and Porsche dealers are the same - and neighbours).. should I be returning the charger?

If it is the Porsche EVSE that came with the car then of course you return it as it is part of the standard spec.

The Porschecharger itself kind of sucks, mines has stayed in the bag and I've used my own. I'd give it back just to not look at it. Separately, I also have one from Polestar. If you get back into another EV, most EVs will come with a decent EVSE anyhow.

Mine is shown on the window sticker, so 100% feel it belongs to the car.
Kinda cheap to assume otherwise

My perspective is that when you traded the car, they gave you a number based on how that car sat when they valued it. If they didn't request and you didn't promise anything else, then nothing else is owed.

With that said, the Porsche EVSE is worthless - use this opportunity to get rid of it.

Why would anyone want this POS? I am scared to death of it. It has been in storage for a long time now. Don't need my house burning down.

I thought there was some software in them that tied to the car. I used mine once or twice till my ChargePoint Homeflex came in. I would give it back unless you think you can sell it and make a few more bucks on the trade.

An EVSE that costs $350 is infinitely higher quality than the porsche option and comes with the added bonus of not carrying the risk of melting or burning down your house. I can't imagine the wisdom in being thrifty enough to keep this, as there are numerous reports showing it wont even charge a non-porsche properly.

As a counter point (and just to hijack the thread) mine has been rock solid charging at 100% - no heating etc. On a recent trip to the middle of nowhere, I used it to trickle-charge for 10-14hrs at a time, with the charger out in the elements (a mix of rain and snow, temps dropping well below freezing) - no issues.. I wouldn't leave on a trip without it.

I blew up my last charger and decided to use my Porsche freebie until such time as I could have a new wall mounted charger installed. I already had a Nema 14-50 compatible 240 outlet in the garage so I plugged in and now charge with the sucker everyday -- no fires, no smoke, no urgent need to research wall chargers. I'd advise the dealer that his failure to thoroughly inspect a vehicle before purchasing it sounds like a personal problem. ;)
