Not only chips, the chinese companies make most of the batteries, motor magnets and better software. Their EV's are superior to those from the germans and cheaper.

We'll buy Porsche for brand name, design, but technologically they have to play the catch up game.

Or maybe I'm wrong and Porsche will build superior sports EV's. (with high resolution rear camera)
Chinese EV's are superior because of the backup camera? Come on!

Have you ever sat in a Chinese EV? Recently I took an Uber in a GAC AION Y. Nice little SUV kind of car. Driver said: He always has the window open, because he gets headaches. Lot's of his colleagues with the same car complain about feeling sick and throwing up.

Also took a few rides in a BYD HAN. Sound and looks nice, but really quite Chinese when it comes to exterior and interior design.

Then you sit in a brand new ET5 NIO. Looks nice (I guess German car designer), but inside it feels like a desperate attempt to copy T. Looks so empty and boring. Then you look at the options:
NONE - Wait, you look at the price, it is without the battery. So there is one option, you either lease it (~200US per month), or you buy it. Suddenly the EV is as expensive as a fully loaded Mercedes, but still has no options.

Nevertheless, there is one huge advantage Chinese makers have. Their home market is fully EV ready. Chargers are EVERYWHERE. That makes it easier to develop new models and produce volumes to be profitable with low prices.

Starting with the 964 Model in 1989........................
If you’d asked me 3 years ago, I’d have said that I coveted whichever 911 Turbo was the latest and greatest.

Now though, I drive by a new 911 GTS parked in a driveway on my street almost every day and I can’t help but think it looks HUGE and aero-boring.

I think the appropriate 911 for me may be a 1983 911SC!

My first Porsche was a ‘78 911 SC. Great car, but by modern standards not the best driver. IMO, setting aside the magic Singer does turning hideous 964s into gorgeous pieces of mechanical art, the best air cooled 911 variant was the 993, and the best water cooled was the 991.1. The 992s are hideous blobs that barely look like 911s to me.

https://www.autodaily.com.au/porsche-says-significant-price-increases-are-coming/

Porsche will impose “significant price increases” on its cars in the middle of this year to keep its profits high, its chief financial officer has told investors.

Porsche aims to hit a 20% return “in the long term” as part of its Road-to-20 strategy.

“We will see significant price increases in the middle of the year for the new model year. That will help a lot to make sure we make strong group operating margins,” Meschke said.

Porsche is currently in the middle of a spending push to invest in new EVs that have raised its R&D and capital expenditures to a higher level than it would ideally like. Those expenditures would “peak” in 2023/2024, Meschke said.
BMW just announce a price freeze and they will stop passing cost increases to consumers.

I had a friend that had a 1984 that over time he converted from a steerable car to a Club Racer. What a spectacular driving machine!

Here’s a nice opinion piece. They can get margins higher by selling on the high end, and making more variants. Then you add the options…. Still the prices will be going up.

Yea, I stopped reading that article after reading this:
Like rivals, Porsche has prioritized production of its most expensive vehicles since the pandemic and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine roiled supply chains.
I put my first deposit down for a Taycan Turbo CT in early summer 2021 (mid-pandemic). I expanded my search nationwide. During that search I found the opposite to be true, could have had a RWD, even 4S CT, but no Turbo's to be found (extremely few allocations). I did come across one universal Turbo S allocation, but with large ADM. There was a waitlist years long at the dealership where I put down the deposit, yet they still only got one Turbo CT in the first year of me waiting, while they got a few other lower trims. They are the largest Porsche dealer in WA state (I was number 1 on a list at a smaller dealer, also no allocations, while there was handfuls of other trims). So I have to call bullshit on the above statement of prioritizing the more expensive vehicles. That is what they should have done perhaps, but not what they actually did.

The only 'chinese' EV that I've driven was the Polestar 2. Polestar 3 is coming soon and its a cool EV.

Other EV's are not superior because of a backup camera but when you spend 200k on a car these details matter, for me at least. Also to listen good music you have to spend 6k.

Now Porsche will raise prices, no problem but bring up better tech.

You’re focusing on Taycans. Porsche is churning out GT3s, GT4s, RS’s, the new Sport Classic, Cayenne Turbo GT’s, etc. About the only base vehicle Porsche is producing en mass right now is the base Macan.

Aren't all of those even rarer? (in terms of allocations)

Higher prices in future = higher resale for Used Taycan market , we shall see
Hopefully.

We don't want to see them become like the luxury barges (S class / 7 Series / S8 etc) used to be. Where you had high initial cost combined with huge depreciation from day 1.

That was primarily due to very high running costs, whereas a Taycan is the opposite, compared to ICE cars, so hopefully it will be different.

My one concern is that the high running costs get replaced with expensive repairs for cars out of warranty, and that will put potential buyers off.
Even more reason for us owners why Porsche needs to get back on track with reliability issues.

My sales rep told me the price increase - at least partly - might be by making (high margin) options into standard equipment and adjusting the base price accordingly.
As my MY24 order is pretty much loaded with at least the tech options I don’t worry too much.

I feel like any 992 is rarer than a Taycan. People are putting deposits for one out through as long as 2025 from what i've seen. My SA says its a 6mo wait for an allocation for just a base carrera.

Meanwhile you can find a lot of Macans on any lot like you said. Either people aren't buying those or Porsche isn't simply focused on their most expensive model.

I hope this is the case as I’m in a similar boat. If it’s more than a 5% bump on overall price I’m probably gonna cancel.
