I've experienced the car unlocking itself right after locking, but recently I noticed the door handles sometimes will not present when I touch the driver's door handle, even if the key is right next to the handle. Keeping the key at the front door handle, but touching the rear door handle with the other hand, does present the handles. Not 100% repeatable, but has happened a few times in the last month. Is this indicative of bad hardware, or just another delightful quirk of Porsche software quality (like randomly changing audio source while driving)?

It is called Bespoke Features!

And the service guys will say

”They all do that, Sir””

So what you're saying is I just stepped into another early adopter car? Is it Tesla all over again, just 10 years later and with slower pace of progress (Tesla was deploying OTA updates fixing issues as often as every week, Porsche seems to be doing once a year?).

When you say that you touch the door handle, do you mean that you try to open the door ? Or just touch on the outside of the handle.

My car will only open when I pull on the handle and has worked that way all the time. And easy to lock by pressing the small indent touch area. I have set it so that only the drivers door will open then.

Both. Usually touch does it, but when it didn't, I actually manually pulled the handle out, still didn't open. I close using the dent, but sometimes the car unlocks itself right away. In my experience the latter happens more when it's cold, but not enough data so far to be sure.

Features of comfort access do not work consistently. The indent only works 50% of the time - door handle does not always open as intended. I gave up and just use the FOB, it seems to work reliably.

On a fairly new 991- 911, I had a leaking hydraulic chain tensioner. I was told "They all do that Sir". I had to bring it to a region manager before they replaced it. I think this is the PAG mantra.

I have this on my new GTS ST but never had it on my 4S.

Only impacts cars with Comfort Access.

I've not had time to take a proper look but it may be due to oversensitivity, one of the comfort opening settings conflicting with another or indeed a software glitch.

I think also that after unlocking / locking / unlocking / locking cycle the same won't present the door handles unless you use the key fob for a certain period of time.

There is a known fault in some door handles with a incorrectly printed circuit board. There is a TSB from Porsche.

Mine has needed 2 door handles replaced. Work only took a day but the handles had to be painted so waited about 2 weeks in total.

Not for me, touching or even pulling the front doesn't open it (about 25% of the time now), but keeping the key in the very same spot (near the front handle) but touching the rear handle, presents them ok and unlocks the car. So key is in fact detected.

Maybe if all owners insisted on new handles, rather than just living with bad ones, it would show up as a big enough line item for the Porsche bean-counters to force engineering or manufacturing to improve.

I was told it was a manufacturing fault and it has already been corrected. New handles do seem to work as advertised.

Mine is pretty new, manufactured on 12/26/2022.

Assuming you have comfort access, it doesn’t sound like it’s operating correctly. While there are some quirks with the auto-present handles or locking indent, I have not experienced what you described.

My door handles auto-present whenever I get close to the car with keyfob in pocket, very consistently. One of the more common quirks is when I try to open/pull the auto-presented door handle, it retracts and locks itself. The other quirk is pressing the indent doesn’t lock the car. They happen, but not very frequently.
