EQE AMG vs Porsche Taycan 4S: thoughts?!

Maybe his partner is a He, LOL, mine is..... I have owned 38 new cars, including several Mercedes, Ferraris, and two Porsches prior to my Taycan. I recommend the Tacan because of performance, and all out prestige and sexiness. My 2021 Taycan is awesome. One important difference, of course is rear seat room.. The rear seat is smallish, but very comfortable, the front seat drivers do have to move their seats up a couple inches to give the rear seat passengers enough legroom if they are adults.

If the "battery myth" starts fading out of people minds, I'm sure it will be easier to sell. The price at which you'll sell will be impacted nevertheless.

National dealerships work together against imports and I've suffered from it first hand. Any recall, repair or warranty, you get thrown to the end of the queue as they will give priority to their own customers. That is if you ever find out about the recall. They won't contact you even if you register as customer. I made the habit of calling the local dealership once a year for an imported MB to ask about recalls and updates. They would otherwise simply ignore you. I must have done 6 recalls total with that specific car.

Personally I don't agree with it but I do understand why they discriminate. It sucks though. It's like we don't own the "real thing".

In any case, this time I went national and new because I intend to keep it FOR A LONG TIME and me and the Taycan will grow old together. After 5 years, the origin doesn't really matter anymore and the resell value will be crap anyways.

Here's another factor that might just make your decision easier. I can say this because I'm one of these folks... The EQS and all large luxury Mercedes cars are for old people. Sorry, but that is what I, and quite a few other people think...

As a person of mature years, I second that sentiment. I had a brief Mercedes phase a while back and now I'm attempting to relive my youth, only this time with the means to afford the things I'd rather have had back then. If only I could manage to stay awake long enough to enjoy it all.

This post is a bit of a coincidence as I went to view a new EQE AMG (saloon) as im currently looking for an option to my delayed CT4S order.

Before I go into my findings/comparison- note that I won’t be going for the EQE saloon as a saloon car does not fit my requirements, where as the EQE AMG SUV which I think is more comparable to the CT in terms for boot space/flexibility ( have a 65kg Rottweiler and elect maintain bike I would like to transport around). The EQE SUV AMG is not released (in UK), but thought I would go and have a visit to check out how to quality and cabin layout was. Ruling out the EQS as its bloody expensive in AMG spec and its way too big for what I need.

Please note that cars and peoples wants/needs are very subjective, so my post is my own bias, so should be taken/read as such. im a firm believer that the best review will always be the one you do for yourself ?

So my main observations were as follow:

• Price - seems to be a bit more expensive for Merc when try to spec as close as I could to my CT order
• Seems there are more options available on a Taycan to that on an EQE - key one for me was no air/massage seats (both my wants) and there is not the options of interior trims, colours/customisation as available with the Taycan
• Front and rear seating is not that far apart (no point in comparing the boot)
• Build quality - very comparable
• Multimedia - user interface - probably the best I’ve seen, def better than Tesla or Porsche
• Mercedes Hypersrceen - maybe not for everyone but I thought it was quite special, option to have smaller independent for those not into the big Hyperscreen
• Technology - probably closest to Tesla I have come across to date which in my opinion Tesla still has the edge in todays market. Is it better than Porsche, yeh I think it is, not by much though
• Ambient lighting - again not everyone’s cup of tea but I thought it was different and worth a mention as I thought it was quite good whilst entertaining
• Drive - Porsche Taycan, in my view, is top of the market for feel, drivability and the one EV that copes best as a heavy EV - think EQE ahead of Tesla but not Taycan. EQE AMG was quiet and comfortable. Performance of the EQE AMG feels every bit as quick as a 4S off the mark/straight line……but it gave the feeling that it will be a handful on twisty roads and you will need to learn both the AMG limits as well as your own. It didn’t seem to give as much confidence as the Taycan does. Its a bit of a monster with narly teeth on the UK B roads especially the undulating and those with bad condition/state of repair

So, for me personally, the EQE AMG would not be a contender as a new purchase instead of a Taycan CT4S, maybe the EQE AMG SUV would be a better comparison for internal size/space BUT I think cost will be a major consideration - as mentioned, Merc AMG EQ’s look to be more expensive than similar optioned Taycan.

The other question ref residual value, many threads on opinions on the Taycan and those all vary on where within ‘a’ country and/or which country, then spec, model, mileage etc. etc. etc. What I will say is, if you want to risk mitigate against loss - don’t buy a car ??

I've been searching for the perfect car for the past few months, and unbelievably, I've just came across TODAY to an incredible deal on a 2021 Taycan 4S with only 150 miles and below my budget on the Porsche site. The offer seemed too good to be true, making me wonder if there was some sort of error. However, I didn't hesitate and took the leap almost immediately. Let's see if it happens!

So, it looks like I'll be soon a member of the Taycan family!

Those statistics seem to be legit but the populations compared are not age-controlled or -corrected. Us Porsche owners are on average an older bunch than e.g. BMW owners, which unfortunately may not help our physical appeal. At least mine suffered a bit over the years…

I'd say that if you can enter and exit a Porsche driver's seat, means you still have some velocity. Yielding a Mercedes means you're soon paying a deposit for assisted living.

I have to say I liked the Benz way more than I thought I would. It’s a tough call.

If you want a drivers car, that is about as sporty as a giant barge can get, and looks special, then the Taycan wins easily.

If you want a comfortable cruiser that can drive itself decently well, and has UI/UX at least ballpark to Tesla, and provides more “EV feel” (one pedal driving, acceleration that feels faster than it is vs the opposite), the EQE wins imo. I also prefer the EQE interior by a good bit. I know some people get hung up on the “tacked on iPad” thing, but honestly it works very well and the Taycan approach to screens is awkward at best. Plus, the Benz UI is actually responsive and attractive whereas Porsche is terrible.

I’ll stick with my Taycan because Porsche has my heart, but this is way closer than most make it seem.

My thoughts as well. The EQE is marshmallow soft on the road. The seats, the ride, the power are all creamy smooth. It can also really move when you need it to.

The interior with the light wood dash, matte elements, and small screen is gorgeous. The exterior is less awkward than the EQS by far, still not beautiful but it's growing on me.
