I'm confused about how recall information is provided to vehicle owners and hoping someone here can help clarify. Here's my situation... I have a 2022 CT4. The Porsche website does not show any recalls active for my vehicle when I login and go to the "About My Vehicle" page. In the US, we have a website where we can look up recall information by VIN (https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls). This page also shows no open recalls for my vehicle. Now here's where the inconsistency arises. I took my car to my Porsche dealership to get its annual inspection done and the dealership says there are 2 open recalls (both are software related - WPN9 and WNW2). I am scheduled to have them performed in a couple of weeks.

So what gives? Why the inconsistency between the Porsche dealership, the Porsche website, and the NHTSA website?

Porsche service campaigns such as WPN9 and WNW2 are not "recalls". Some service campaigns, but not all, are recalls.

Interesting that WNW2 is the OTA update that came out in July, 2023. It must not have been "OTA" for your Taycan.

The WNW2 OTA update is definitely interesting. I wonder if Porsche decided it was not a good idea to continue pushing that one via OTA. I continue to get other updates (like the crappy weather app) via OTA so I know my vehicle is configured for it.

I have attached the paperwork from the dealership which uses the word "Recall" extensively. If these are not actually "recalls" then I would assume they should be called something different on this paperwork, shouldn't they? Obviously I'm still confused about this. Thoughts?

BTW... thank you for this information. I just did a bunch of reading about the differences between recalls, service campaigns, and TSBs. Very helpful.

The paperwork labeling both campaigns as recalls is interesting. Is it authored by Porsche or by your dealer?

I ask because normally the Porsche documents filed with NHTSA for recalls have language in them that use the term "recall" and outline when dealers and owners of the affected vehicles will be notified. The Porsche documents for these two campaigns available at NHTSA site do not have that recall terminology.

WNW2 is/was the OTA update that many of our Taycans received earlier this year. The documents at NHTSA that I have seen never referred to that campaign as a safety related recall.

Yeah, this could be an issue of the dealership having a standard form and mislabeling these as "recalls". This paperwork came from my dealership and not from Porsche.

On the MyPorsche website, one of the two green icons in the vehicle section indicates that the Taycan has ability to receive OTA updates.

Your dealership wants to take good care of your Taycan and/or wants the warranty money for those campaigns. ;)

I assume you're referring to these...
