New to this forum, but have been lurking for a bit. I'm going to Dallas to see the car and do paperwork on my TR. I've already negotiated enclosed trailer shipping to my home in San Diego. But now, I'm very tempted to blow of 2 days of work and just drive it back to San Diego. I've bought 2 estates over the years; one in San Francisco, and one in LA and have driven it back home. The trip home was so much fun. However, this will be a fairly lengthy one.. How painful of a trip is this, are there reasonable charging stations between Dallas & San Diego? Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Do it, especially since you seem to enjoy road trips. (I’ve done a few fly-and-drive purchases, to the point I’m hoping not to find a good match locally whenever i need a new car.)

A quick look at ABRP shows plenty of chargers on the Dallas - SD route, easily doable in 1.5d (2d including flying out and taking delivery). Chargers in unpopulated areas tend to be fast and reliable IME, though I’m not familiar with that particular route. My only concern would be weather in mountain passes, though probably not an issue that far South.

(What’s a TR? If other than “taycan rwd”, then ignore everything I said above ?)

TR is short for Turismo.
Ah, around here we call those “CT” or “ST”; also, please know there will be a test on proper pronunciation of “Porsche” during your first week of forum membership.

?
Good luck; it’s a fantastic road tripping vehicle. Welcome and enjoy!

Echoing @WasserGKuehlt's comments. I'd go for it. 2 days is a great road trip. Taycan is amazing at road tripping. One of the better ways to get to know your car quick. Taking the southern route should not put any significant snow in your way, but if the car is on summer tires, watch the temperatures too, anything under ~46F/8C and all summer tires start losing their grip performance. If you got all seasons, you can drive around the clock. Might want to play around with PCM simulator online ahead of time, so you're familiar with the screen controls.

Good luck and enjoy your trip! Take pictures along the way for some fun memories. See the trip reports section of this forum, including the linked above fly-and-drive ones for any possible additional hints based on others' experiences.

Thank you for your input. I hope I don’t see much snow.. I’ve lived in the tropics and soCal all my life. It will be a new learning experience.

If you do see snow, you probably took a right when you should have taken a left ? but don't fret, this car shreds the pow.
It takes a couple thousand miles to break in the regen, so the range will be abbreviated for this trip. Charge early and often.

Great fun long trip and the charging will work out. It just takes more time than getting gas. I drove mine from western Colorado to Chicago and back weeks after it was new and picked up a lot of nicks in the windshield from freeway driving. I replaced the windshield since it bothered me. I just trailered it from western CO to Los Angeles and think it was worth the money. If you're going to be driving behind semis regularly where you live, maybe it doesn't matter. I have a Q7 for road trips, so I'm trying to keep the Taycan on more fun roads with less need to be behind fast moving trucks

This thread linked below has some very useful tips from members. I did a similar distance trip two days after I got the car.
All that content in the thread is useful - and the best personal advice I can give you is to make sure you have access to ABRP and make it a conservative charge plan. I would recommend no less than 20% charge at each charge point.

I dont get to drive too often, and because traffic is dense and truly awful in my area.. so it's usually slow moving. I like to get out on the road and stretch my legs ;)

When are you picking it up? If few days out, just ask the SA for a picture of the tires and it’s markings. If you post them here we can help you interpret. Also, if this is a used car, check the tread depth of the tires (whether to drive it home or ship it) - tires are your safety.

I did Dallas to California in June 2022 - the charging was mostly great until I hit California, where I hit my first contention for chargers. Albuquerque was downrated.

I blogged it here:
https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/threads/road-trip-report-texas-to-california-round-trip.11386/

Also included my log from http://Chargey.app for the trip here, if you're interested in seeing detail on any of the specific stops let me know. I've for you to try the app for your trip and give me feedback!
