Do you have a way to find the PID/header for tire pressure? I'm trying to figure out how to scan and identify PIDs but it seems like the Taycan (or Nissan Juke for that matter) doesn't support mode 24 which is supposed to help with PID identification via offset scanning.

you mean brute force around DIDs and guessing if scaling fits to common temps or pressures by ReadScalingDataByIdentifier?
Nice idea but I think you need to start sniffing with PIWIS/ODIS/VCDS.

Yes, I have DIDs for all 4 tire temps but no "way to find the PID/header" of it ? Can provide the data, should be somewhere on my laptop or carscanner definitions.

see attached, all headers, DID, scalings and more, have fun and mention kudos, that's fine :)

Ah! Thank you! All of this deep diving makes me realize there really needs to be some kind of centralized and easy to contribute to way for people to document discovered PIDs. My rough thinking:

1. Electric Sidecar should have a way to “hunt” for PIDs, possibly through simple brute force scanning. In the absence of mode 24 support it seems like the only way to do this is to try every mode 22 address for every header variation (e.g. 7E0), which is kind of bananas. Maybe these brute force maps can be decentralized and shared by VIN buckets in some manner.
2. Once PIDs are identified, sample data for those PIDs should be able to be added to a central pool of data that can then be visualized in aggregate, organized by session and VIN bucket. It should be possible to quickly apply different scaling functions to these graphs in order to identify potential underlying values.
3. It should then be possible to submit proposed identifications of PIDs, which then allows someone else to also validate the PIDs on their own car before ultimately committing the PID to a central repository.

Something to noodle on… first order of business is just making Electric Sidecar be a really solid front end OBD interface.

Of PIWIS/ODIS/VCDS, which do you think is the most worthwhile investment?

probably PIWIS, but I would never spend more than 200 bucks for a chinese PIWIS copy on a 50$ Laptop and VAS clone. Never tried ODIS and VCDS is very limited on the Taycan.

I like your community-driven DID* collecting approach, but I kind of tried that 2 years ago and you will never get more than less than a hand full people actually making this effort. I supplied most of my findings to Stanislav which is the author of carscanner, who actually lacks of time as his App virtually support every car.

*it's actually DID not PID that are of interest. These guys have an excellent website not only explaining the naming details.

I was playing with wallpapers on my iphone, looks that i launched cabin warming (again).
I found out about 30 minutes later…lost 4% of SoC and switched it off
Will be more careful next time for sure :headbang:

Oh no! I felt like the iPhone Lock Screen maybe didn’t need the confirmation for the action but it sounds like it might be a good idea to add it there too. I might make it configurable. Maybe it would make sense to send a local notification when it turns on as well?

Latest update as I've been in this rabbit hole for a while: I've finished reading the entire ELM327 history and specification and codified it into Electric Sidecar, with the intent of adding a feature to Electric Sidecar for testing the legitimacy of ELM327 interfaces both for informational purposes and so that Electric Sidecar can make the most efficient use of any given hardware. The history behind ELM327 is a bit of a tragic story arc.

I'm now working on adding Wi-Fi support (BTLE is already in place), in addition to the UX flow for managing devices.

The idea of this interface will be that you simply need to plug your OBD-II device into your vehicle and as soon as your phone detects that a trip is starting, it will search for any dongles and then instantly start pulling the relevant data from the car in the background. My MVP goal is a zero-config solution that wires all of the relevant DIDs to the corresponding Electric Sidecar interface elements.

Once I get Wi-Fi support landed, I've found a way to run an ELM327 simulator on my laptop so that will help me speed up iterations on the data pipeline and processing. I plan to also make it really easy to cast OBD-II data to CarPlay so that you can see real-time readouts of any DID / PID.

A ton of potential here and that last goal to link into CarPlay for easy visualization would be really excellent!

So I think that the Apple Watch might be able to connect directly to OBD-II dongles, both over BTLE and Wi-Fi. This opens up a variety of particularly interesting opportunities for visualizing data on the watch; I'm curious if there's any kind of metering or data people would like to see broadcast to the watch as essentially an extension of the vehicle dashboard to your wrist.

So this is data that the watch would only receive while in WiFi or Bluetooth range of the OBDII device in the car? I was thinking it would be great to get watch alerts concerning charging status while taking a break in a restaurant, but that would be out of range.
