I plan on purchasing a GTS and this offer came up from the dealer, $25K off a new 2023 GTS with a $170K MSRP.

What do you think? Thanks

From the other current threads it sounds like your car will be marketable at about $125-$130K after a couple of months and a couple of thousand miles. So if you're planning to upgrade in a couple of years, you hopefully have some significant disposable income that you don't have any other use for.

I've been surprised at the level of depreciation but the main impact it will have on me is that I probably will keep my RWD twice as long as initially anticipated. Even in 2030 the car will still be amazing to drive IMO. Also, in thinking about the new 2023 GTS ... think about how much someone would be willing to pay for it in 3-5 years?

If it was me, and if I would have to buy new, a model that literally within hours will be old, and the spec was acceptable, with no mileage, I would bite at 25% off sticker.

Back some years ago, when the refreshed Macan came, my dealer had a new one left over. He was willing to let go for 22% without any negotiating.

$25K off would sound attractive if the car had an MSRP around $150K. For a GTS as you climb above $150K the value of additional items become truly marginal IMO.

$25k/$170k is only about 15% off. You should be able to get at least 20% off. Probably more since the GTS probably has higher margins.

The 2025 is literally just around the corner (isn't the rumor that they're announcing them tomorrow?). Even at 20% off depending on how long you hold on to your cars, it may be better to lease it than to buy it since it'll be 2 model years old in a couple of months resulting in a large automatic depreciation hit.

Like, if you only hold on to your car for about 3 years - you'll probably do better with a lease on 20-25% off and a 53% residual than you'll do buying and then selling a car that'll be 5 model years old in 3 years.

Discount doesn't seem like enough. I have a friend with a very well optioned 2023 GTS that he has offered to sell me when his Macan EV comes in later this spring. He felt that a compromise price to me (between market and what a dealer would give him) was $115-120K. Granted, that is used, but it will have fewer than 10K miles on it and had an MSRP around 170K.

Just a datapoint for your reference.

Yeah, a highly-optioned GTS is kinda a tough sell against a slightly used Turbo (S) - in my view. I agree that the options depreciate much more quickly than the base vehicle price so this discount is likely a peek at that the market will do post-purchase.

Thanks for the advice, I’ll sit and wait on the announcement. I’m set on buying and keeping. Doesn’t have to be the best deal anyone has ever gotten but I don’t want to leave easy money on the table.

It’s the same in UK. All new stock is more than 10% off list with no haggling. Dealer showroom loony spec cars can be up to 20% off.
They are not bargains, just market value.
Pity the chaps that bought highly specced GTS showroom cars in the crazy 2022 days of summer.
A GTS ST that was £105k list with £20k extras left my local dealer for £150k.
The buyer was very happy he had found the car.
He was from the other side of the country.
The salesman was pleased as he was unlikely to see the buyer again. Too embarrassing.
Worth less than half now.
Compared to this be happy with todays bargains.

Understanding exactly what’s in the refresh, and then putting a (subjective) price on that is the only way. That is, can you live with/without x, y or z, and is that worth waiting 6-12 months. Plus, it may be safe to assume the refresh won’t be discounted for a while.

For contrast, my local dealer was charging 15-20k ADM for GTS and higher, less than 2 years ago. Now a 15% discount is not enough. ??‍♂ It’s not as if the .1 cars will all become worthless (or $20) overnight - it’s a solid car, with a long life, and most of the quirks sorted out. Naturally, ymmv.

The facelift is revealed and so tempting, the issue is and my dealer was right…no GTS variants at this time. It will be another year or two for that?

That's usually Porsche's approach. Same with the new Macan EV--just a 4 and a 'Turbo' at launch

Having read the full details of the refresh, I'd have to say it would be wiser (financially speaking) to wait. Any unsold inventory will only drop further in price in the coming weeks/months. So either go used (as @Redhot2474 says) for even bigger discounts, or wait and get a .2 new built to your spec.

I'm sure you can justify a .1 GTS new at the price of a base .2, but IMO it'd have to be exactly how you'd have specced to your order.
