Hi all

First post on this forum as I have been looking to buy a used taycan for quite some time. Stumbled across a "cheap" taycan turbo 2020 with 25k miles on it with every option I want + color for 69k USD. original MSRP about 160k.

There was a buyback by porche "for customer satisfaction" in late 2023 for a faulty HV battery which was replaced under warranty. The dealership selling this is disclosing it and it is also reflected on the carfax / service history.

"In late 2023 Porsche Cars North America reacquired this vehicle due to customer complaints in regards to startup issues and the HV battery. Porsche fully resolved this matter under warranty by replacing cell modules 3, 18 and 27, as well as the HV battery itself. Regardless, in the interest of customer satisfaction, Porsche agreed to repurchase the vehicle. "

Is this stupid to consider? Or would it be worth taking a look at? I have read in some cases the replaced battery can even perform better/increase mileage on the car.

Thanks for your responses and your expertise on the matter!

I’d consider this to be pure gambling. Maybe it is fixed, maybe it will be a PITA. Do you feel lucky?

What does this even mean: replaced modules 3, 18, 26 and the HV battery itself? They either replaced the battery or the modules??

I think they replaced the modules THEN changed the full battery as I imagine it didn't fix the original issue.

Just checking to see if @Vim Schrotnock still has his.. ?

OP, the buyback was probably caused by the long time the car probably spent being serviced. If it’s offered with a solid warranty (CPO or equivalent), I’d say it’s a steal.

Sounds like a great deal but may be hard to get rid of if you decide to sell. I say this only for the car fax mark of a lemon.

It amazes me how less expensive these cars have become in a short time.

if it is a new battery and they agree the battery warranty starts when the new one was fitted, i'd go for it, it is a bargain.

It's my understanding that the hv warranty does not get refreshed but only continues from the original sale date of the care. So 4 more years.

What do you mean by 'I did the same'?
Could you share details about not getting an extended warranty?
I bought a 2020 4S that had a few cell packs replaced, and I was still able to buy a Porsche extended warranty.

I looked at a Taycan that was in New Jersey with a similar history. But, it had a lemon law title. Great price. You need to be sure that is not the case here. Most states will issue a new title, but it will always have a lemon law stamp on it and you'll be unable to sell the vehicle unless it's a private party. I talked to dealerships throughout Minnesota and none of them would touch a lemon law titled car if I tried to resell it, so I passed.

I have a branded title from a CA car that was returned for a bad battery. The dealer kept the car at the dealership past the deadline for lemon laws.. They replaced the bad cell modules after the dealer bought it back. I figured the battery warranty was good enough to protect for a total loss and I still have 6 month standard warranty.

Nobody I’ve found will sell an extended warranty for a branded title Resale could be a problem but in 4+ years anything is possible especially if the full battery gets replaced at some point due to malfunction or recall.

In 4 years the value of the car is anybody’s guess but the discount for a lemon in 4 years will likely be very small compared to the discount now being offered.

To me a branded title is no difference than a car that had a battery model replacement except the lack of extended warranty. If you can get an extended warranty from the dealer then no downside in my mind.

Unfortunately no the original battery warranty is continued.
