Leaving car parked for 10 days how can I check the health of the 12v

Hey all,
I’ve parked cars before and come back from holiday to find the batteries are flat (old Renault problems)

I noticed a few issues with the Taycan 12v batteries online and wondered if there was a way to check to see if it was okay so when I come back the car isn’t flat and cant be moved. Or if I’m over reacting and 10 days of no movement after an hours drive will be fine.

I found the 12v terminals, it looks like an odd battery. like, only a quarter of it pokes out, and the rest goes under under thewindscreen to the firewall.

Looks a little awkward to get out if I need to change it I guess, but at least I wouldn’t have to disassemble the throttle bodies to get to it lol (old Renault problems)

I've had the same issue after 2 weeks away. Called Porsche Assist, guy from AA came out and knew just what to do. He opened the door, connected 12v to the fuse and then boosted (charged for 5 minutes) the 12v battery to get it going again. The whole thing took less than 10 minutes.

The emergency door unlocking procedure is described in the manual. You can also find a lot on here by searching dead 12v battery. Don't try to remove it from the car though - it's not necessary and a replacement will set you back over a grand.

I got a Porsche Lithium battery charger and now leave it connected when I'm away for over a couple of weeks.

cheers. I’ll check the car when I get back then. But we aren’t away for two weeks. I have breakdown cover with my insurance and I think I have connected to Porsche thing so I have that covered at least cheers.

Over a grand? Does it require them to do it? Looks like a disconnect, unbolt and swap job? Over 1k for that? Really.

I’d guess the battery isn’t one you can just pickup from halfrauds but still

There is no way to check on the 12 volt battery more than to look at the voltage in the display while driving, unless you attach a volt meter to it.

If your battery is in a normal condition, and you have driven the car before parking it for at least an hour or more, you should not have any problems at all. 10 days is not such a long time. However, Do not use the app to check on the car frequently though, since every time you connect to it will start up some modules in the car. And that might drain the 12 volt battery quicker.

I have left my Taycan for up to 8 weeks last summer with no problems whatsoever.

I think some cars go for longer than others! Porsche were pretty vague about how long they should last when I told them about it.

For 10 days you are overthinking it. Go on your trip, forget about the car, don’t check the app at all, return from trip, drive your car again. It should be fine.

This. Just don’t worry whatsoever. I frequently go a couple of weeks between driving and don’t even think about it. All I’d do is make sure you leave it with an SoC between 20-80% although ideally 50-80%.

Typical Porsche, why put in a 12v battery people can get for 300£ and swap out themselves when we can charge em 1.5k

Yeah we only about an hours drive to the carpark. About 45miles, easily arrive with like 70%+ from 85% that it’s currently on.

I was away for 3 weeks, left the Taycan with about 60% SOC at 65 degree weather. Came back and started with no issue. Might depend on how old your battery is. Mine is a 23 C4.

I have been told that as long as you keep the main battery above 50% SOC when in storage for at least weeks the 12V battery will be maintained by the main battery. We travel for 2-3 weeks every few months where the vehicle has had no issues with the 12V battery. I do check the vehicle periodically to make sure the main battery is above 50% but I have not noticed more than a 1% drop in my main battery SOC after 2-3 weeks sitting in the garage.
I do keep our keys in RFID shielded cases so the remotes won't/can't communicate with the vehicle if the keys are too close to the vehicle in attached garages.
I have asked in the past if there is a way to connect a trickle charger to the 12v battery when the car is sitting for weeks or longer but have been told repeatedly to just make sure the main battery does not get below 50% when sitting and so far this has worked.
