I'm already on a 992.2 4S waitlist and put a deposit down like 4 months ago. I love the Taycan, but I'm in my 30s, no kids, and I love roadtripping :D

Also, the 911 maintains its value.
For now it does but that’s going to maintain. 911 is a fanatic vehicle though miss mine from time to time.

Porsche Taycan Underbody Protection Panel damaged. Batteries and coolant lines need inspection. $72.5K replacement & labor cost. Dealership is Tom Wood in Indiana UXxgq32H_170535145

Got the news I was dreading this morning - there is damage to the battery tray and a pressure mark on the battery (waiting for that picture). Price to repair is $68k (and change).
What I find perplexing is this...if I hadn't have taken my car in for warranty work then I would've been driving around until my next service (due in 16k miles), there's no warning lights and/or errors being thrown by the car, can't get my head around that for some reason.

That is absolutely insane. For many of us that repair value is dangerously close to totalling the car, based on current resale value.

This vehicle doesn’t even appear to have been in any kind of an accident - just driven.
WTF, Porsche!

This is absolutely a dealbreaking flaw in the Taycan design. Tesla resolved this a decade ago by shielding the battery pan with titanium.

This is a major achilles heel to the Taycan and it gives me quite serious pause about my planned upgrade to E-Boxster.

Yea that totals any used taycan now. Makes my 42k battery repair look like a good deal.

I don’t think the titanium covered the battery, only components in front of it. The battery was still shielded by aluminum.

So for context here $200k list, 7k miles (of which 1k is what I've put on it) and now close to being totaled - that's absolute madness and definitely not sustainable. I'm definitely going to be calling Porsche customer service on this

It’s pure madness and completely unacceptable.

Honestly it’s absolute bullshit. I thought my 16K roof chip was bad, this makes that look like nothing.

No one should buy this car.

Edit: No one should buy this car unless Porsche gets these repairs for COMMON MINOR ISSUES under control. These prices are crazytown, even adjusting for Porsche.

Call me poor if you want to. I don't know very many wealthy people who would accept these disproportionate repair costs.

It's nothing to do with wealth it's sustainability! If insurance companies are gonna total these based off insance battery costs then premiums are going to go through the roof and no one will buy them (which is what I suspect is happening right now!). It's essentially making an EV a consumable item and by that I mean, it gets battery damage let's total it as it's so expensive.
The fact here is that a low riding car gets an impact off the road (which i didn't even hear) of 3.33mm (3mm tolerance remember) and that has impacted not only the battery tray above the protection plate but the actual battery too - this, to me, seems like a fundamental design flaw!!

The people who are lowering these cars are straight idiots and just asking for this repair bill.

Out of curiosity what did you bring the car in for when the battery dent was discovered? This makes me want to get tires and other basic work done elsewhere TBH.

Camera and wiring loom replacement as various cameras were intermittently not working

I'll be honest.......
This is the final straw for me.

I was already getting disillusioned with all the faults, but I honestly believe Taycans will be close to uninsurable in the very near future. My renewal is due any time, I just hope it's not ridiculous for 1 final year.
After that - it's going. I will hand it back and take the financial hit.

I will not be buying another Porsche. My first and last.

Too much is out of your control with a Taycan (monopoly) and all the time you get stuffed for the unfortunate privilege of being a customer.

I will not be buying another Porsche. My first and last.
I bought my first Porsche in 1998 - a new Boxster - and it changed my relationship with cars.
Since then I've been a passionate enthusiast and have owned 9 over the years.

I'm 100% committed to EVs as the future; to me the instant linear power and simplicity of design are like going from a flip phone to an iPhone. I can't go back to ICE. The motivating factor on my first Taycan purchase was my Targa 4s felt straight broken after driving my wife's Tesla.

And now I'm sad, because like you I can't see myself sticking with Porsche if I want to keep driving EVs.

I was really looking forward to that E-Boxster.

@Maelstrom is there any negotiation on this repair? From the cost it sounds like they are pushing for a full battery replacement plus labor. These batteries are supposed to be repairable on a cell by cell basis, I thought. Can you get a second opinion from another dealer? Buy an intact battery from a wrecked Taycan?

At this point can you even have them button it back up and give the car back as is?
