@Maelstrom , do you have a written quote for the $68K, I'm curious what it consists of given a brand new battery from Porsche lists at $27K (see link post #173 from @WasserGKuehlt).
Brand new battery + labor + new protective sheet + and I assume they want to replace the whole battery cooling pipes, on the excuse of them being damaged.

That sum sounds like a massive rip-off.

@Maelstrom I would ask for some repair estimations from other porshe approved shops also...

This is worisome, but for example i have several times heard loud hits on this tray, and inspecting it afterwards resulted in 0 damage or dents. So I don't think it's sooooo sensible. But still, 3mm???

Worth remembering on this thread that 0.33mm is less than the thickness of a fingernail.

So if it was 2.99mm would it then have been deemed OK/no cost?

Porsche set a limit. The limit was exceeded, the amount it was exceeded by doesn’t matter.
Always the problem with rules: they start from/with a spirit and end up with a (quasi-random) number. Keep asking that question, @Maelstrom, this is all very slanted against you, the consumer.

True, in that an inspection of the battery is now called for. From the picture it appears that a coolant channel was touched. I can find no indication that the dent to the channel was measured therefor it is impossible to determine if the cooling capability of that channel has been compromised. There has been no mention of pulling the dent out. So yes, a limit was exceeded and the battery needs to be looked at. Porsche is making zero attempt to make a real world assessment of the possible damage to the cooling system and how to fix it.

@Maelstrom, do you have another dealer near you that you can go and get a second opinion from? Or at least call them to find out the costs of replacing the HV battery? After seeing the true cost of the battery from an earlier post, your current service center is starting to sound more suspicious.

A red flag is from the insurance, they have calculations based on the parts needed and labor it would take to replace the battery. It sounds like the service center is massively inflating the costs of parts and/or labor. But that's just my guess. ?‍♂

This is what I'm going to do - at the end of the day if i hadn't have taken it in for the recall work then I would be none the wiser - I had no errors and/or lights on the dash and battery temps were normal - to your point I think they're massively inflating the level of effort here.
I'll do some research into independent EV places this weekend but will tell Porsche to get my car back together

Honestly that’s exactly what I’d do. The battery warranty is already gone as soon as they measured the ding so them “flagging the car” has already happened.

Just had a call from the dealership - the disconnect in the price is that the insurance listed a remodeled battery, which are not available (I get why they would do this)

Porsche Taycan Underbody Protection Panel damaged. Batteries and coolant lines need inspection. $72.5K replacement & labor cost. Dealership is Tom Wood in Indiana Screenshot 2024-07-08 104755

Replacing the underbody trim is only $453, probably even less from suncoast.

The battery linked in the previous post is listed at $26,892.58 as a NEW 93KWH battery from a Porsche dealer. What is the reason for the almost double cost showing in your quote? Is it the full MSRP vs. the other one is dealer selling it with less than full profit? I get that Porsche dealers markup is often 100%, but in case of such high priced item, shopping around could save you a ton of money.
