Depressing First Post

First post on this forum and unfortunately it’s not a good one. I collected a 2023 GTS sport turismo at the start of July which was registered in Dec 23 but not been driven since so only had 12 miles on it when I collected it. I’ve done 500 miles since collection and already got the dreaded red circle electrical system fault so it was collected from my work and taken to Porsche to investigate. They’ve had it a week and all they know so far is that it needs the battery repaired or replaced and are now waiting for Porsche Germany to confirm when the parts will be available. The dilemma I have now is do I wait for the lengthy repair and hope the car doesn’t have anymore major problems or hand the car back and move onto something different? Has anyone else had this so early on into ownership?

If the spec is right for you wait for the new battery but push them on timing, threaten to cancel the order if they don’t fix quickly. Good luck.

The spec is what I want and the short time I did have it I loved it but now I’m not sure if I’ll be able to trust the car or will I always feel like something else will go wrong. Would be interesting to hear from someone who’s had the battery replaced to see what life was like after

Have a look at the Porsche approved site and see if anything else matches the spec.

There are 45 GTS STs from 2023 on their site. Buyer's market.

Cars do not like being sat unused IMO. And need a proper going over when they have been. I'd prefer one with some miles on it - if nothing else, someone else has been through the aggro of the early niggles.

My point was basically the same as @Murph7355.

I love my 2021 4S and it’s only ( …only…) been off the road for 5 weeks since new, but that’s 5 weeks longer than any car I’ve had over 50 years of driving. It gets a bit wearing when yet another recall comes along.

If the spec is right, I would get the dealer to provide a similar Taycan GTS or higher loaner until the issue is resolved, or ask for a monthly depreciation allowance - whatever a zero money down, shortest lease lease monthly payment would be on said car, seems fair as it would be calculated based on Porsche's own residual values. If they try to tell you some story about "we are certain it will be repaired in x days" as for that in writing, with some major concessions if it it's not repaired in your hands after said x days. Sometimes dealers are willing to gamble. I once got $7,500 for a custom order car just because it was delivered a month and half after the "absolute latest" the dealer was certain it would be ready for me to pick up.

Otherwise, see if there is another car that you like, and if so, return this one and get the other one.

They’ve currently given me a macan as a courtesy car but did offer to get me in a like for like car whilst mines being fixed but then that would almost be me committing to keeping the car rather than getting my money back. There is also a few new 4s sport turismo becoming available and should I get my money back and go for the new variant

Same happened to me on my 2023 GTS I got late last year with major discount. Red circle message and battery had to be replaced. After I had an idea how long it might take I called Porsche USA and logged an official complaint. They were very nice. I gently suggested to them that lemon law would be applying to this scenario and they were aware of it. I have to compliment the way Porsche USA handled it. The car was in the shop for 6 weeks, getting the battery took 4 weeks. On e at dealership they replaced within 2 days. I ended up getting following perks:
- Taycan 4 loaner
- 4k check as compensation from Porsche USA (equivalent to 2 leasing payments)
- Garmin Porsche smartwatch from the dealership that I ended up selling for $800 on ebay

So far everything has been fine since the battery replacement and I am very happy I kept the car. It’s the best looking and handling car on the market and that I have ever owned. Brings a smile to my face every day and my kids love launch control.
If you are in the USA I would suggest to keep the car and get some money back from Porsche USA. Indirectly mention lemon law to them and their wallet will magically open.

If you're not wedded to the one you have, as seems to be the case, thank them for the offer but note you'd like to return the car for a refund.

You could also ask them if they have access to any of a similar spec/price that it could be swapped for. Note the spec items that you must have and take it from there.

These are not rare cars and are depreciating a good chunk. If they cannot commit to a fix time, then it's not right that you shoulder depreciation with no access to the car you bought.

Personally I'd return the car. I've had multiple, but relatively minor, problems with my 22 Taycan 4s (bought new). I'm up to about 12 'issues' and although the dealer has offered some compensation I'm really concerned about what happens around future problems. Not a happy bunny. Take your cash back and buy second-hand - values have plummeted.

Reject the car within 28 days (you picked it up in early July’24 and it is now July 29th). Put this in writing. Outwith 28 days and these guys will play you on the long game - ie you must allow us to repair etc.
