I recently purchased an extended warranty for my ‘20 Taycan. Unlike ICE vehicles for which the extended warranty covers the car and the engine, (as I am sure you are all already aware), the Taycan extended warranty does not cover the HV battery. On questioning at the dealership, no answers were provided to me as to the possibility of extending the HV battery warranty. I was advised that they were unable to get clarity on this issue from Porsche head office. My assumption is that Porsche is reluctant to offer warranty options until significant real world reliability data has been collected. Regardless, if I am not able to extend the battery warranty, I will be forced to trade the car prior to the expiration of its original battery warranty, as replacement costs can be astronomical. Likely this would have a strongly negative impact on resale values as well. Does anyone have information regarding HV battery warranties?
As a side note, the HV battery is supposed to operate within certain capacity parameters to be considered healthy. 100% capacity at delivery, 80% net capacity within first 3 years and under 50k, 70% capacity within 8 years and under 130k.
I asked the dealership to tell me the current battery health (my iPhone does this with the click of a button) and they said they were unable to. Has anyone had experience with this?
