Help! I have a new 2025 Taycan 4S — a wonderful car except right now it does not allow itself to be charged. I am seeking advice on what I can try to get it charging again, and/or whether there’s a number ar website at Porsche that can help me solve the problem. (My dealer has, sadly, not been responsive).

A few details: I have a Porsche Wall Charger Connect in my garage, set up by an electrician. I had/have a charging schedule set up with the assistance of the “Porsche Pro” at my dealer. At the start, everything worked fine. The electrician who installed the PWCC hooked up the charger and the car charged right up, until we stopped it to avoid charging at peak electric rates. The charging program also worked well the first time, charging from midnight to 7:00 am up to 85% as programmed.

And then . . . Not. I have plugged the car in when I get home and wanted to get it back to 85%, but unlike the first time, when I checked the app in the morning, no charging occurred. The app now shows a series of dates under “last charging processes” in which the amount charged is 0.0kWh.

In another, twist, yesterday I tried turning off the charging schedule, plugging the car in, and letting it charge as the electrician had done. Unfortunately, the screen in the car responded by telling me “please wait,” which I did for quite a while until it became obvious that the “please wait” message was never going away.

Ideas about what I can try will be most appreciated. Happy to supply photos or additional details as needed. Please keeep in mind that while I am a car aficionado, (if this isn’t already obvious), my technology skills are quite limited. Thanks!

Try this:
  1. Unplug the car from the charger
  2. Set the car to DIRECT CHARGE
  3. Turn off the wall charger
  4. Turn off the circuit breaker to the wall charger
  5. Wait two minutes
  6. Turn on the wall charger circuit breaker
  7. If it does not come on automatically, turn on the wall charger
  8. Wait for the wall charger to finish initializing
  9. Plug the wall charger into the car
  10. Pray, not curse!

Can you share your charging settings in the PCM? You'll need to share the General Profile and any Timers that the 'Porsche Pro' set up for you.
If there's an issue with the PWCC or how it was installed, that might be a factor too.

If after following the tips posted above the car will not charge on your home charger, take the car to a public AC charger (an AC 'destination' charger, not a DC fast charger) and see if it will charge. This will help you figure out whether the problem is the home charger or the car.

stupid questions:
  1. does the PWCC have power
  2. has the circuit breaker on the PWCC tripped
  3. does the car work under "direct charge" from the PWCC?
  4. have you tried both sides of the vehicle?
  5. have you tried direct charge at a public EV charger?
  6. cycled the power on the PWCC via the circuit breaker? turn the circuit breaker "off", count to 5 slowly - and then turn it back on.
I would diagnose all of the PWCC issues via 'direct' charging - if it doesn't work doing a "direct" charge - it won't work with a profile/timer…get it working with 'direct charge' first, and then if that works, start debuging the timer/profile.

Many thanks for all the helpful responses. Unfortunately, I am out of commission for the next few days so it won‘t be until later in the week that I will be able to implement these suggestions. In the meantime, a few quick answers:

The PWCC has power

I have not been able to get to the direct charge screen. When I try to do so, I get the endless “please wait” message.

Old screenshots of what was programmed are (hopefully) attached, but note that in the hope that it might make a difference in allowing me into direct charge mode, I recently turned the program off.

Will try all your suggestions asap and let you know how they went.

Thanks again!

When you can come back to this - can you share a photo of what the PWCC is saying on screen at the same time that you are seeing the 'Please Wait' spinner?

Also, try disconnecting your PWCC from the car - it sounds like there might be an issue with the car communicating with it.

While disconnected, hopefully you can enable Direct Charge and then try reconnecting.

Thanks again to all who responded.

Here is a (strange and disconcerting) update:

My dealer belatedly responded to my inquiries, apparently recognizing that selling an EV that cannot be charged is not exactly a good look. Porsche Connect got involved and got my car to direct charge on my PWCC once, which answers some of the questions/addresses some of the steps many of you asked/recommended.

However, Porsche Connect could not get the scheduled charging to work and concluded that my not-yet-four-week-old new 2025 4S has old software that needs to be updated or the car will never charge properly. How could old software be installed in a new car? They’ve been seeing it a lot, said the guy at Porsche Connect, without actually answering the question.

We tried a software reboot but it failed to do the trick. My car is now back at the dealer for installation of new software.

Will provide further updates as I get them. Thanks again for your help and interest.

Have you tried charging the car at a local public AC charger - not a Porsche-branded device (PWCC)?

If not, try it. Need to confirm if the problem is the car, or the PWCC.
