Hi All

I am about to swap my summer tyres out for winters and was going to change the tyres over before I do, so I don't have a load of waiting time when I get them put back on. I've got a price from Porsche and it's about £300 more than a local fitting (Porsche tax). I can get the tyres delivered for over £400 less than Porsche will fit some for, fitting is £145 inc VAT, so seems worth doing.

Has anyone in the UK got their tyres changed outside of Porsche?

Yes, it's fine to do. If you puncture you will have to go to Porsche anyway as they tend to hold stock of N rated Winters in the UK otherwise you could be waiting 2-3 weeks with Brexit checks as all the Winters on UK sites are usually shipped in from Germany, so arrive in the UK 12 hours after you buy them but take 2 weeks to clear customs.. Might as well save cash when you can. Make sure you buy N rated Winters though as Porsche will insist on N rated if they have to fit a replacement.

We used to keep a spare Winter for my wife's VW in the shed but with different sized front and rear tyres it just isn't worth it.

Sorry for clarity: I have a full set of winter wheels and tyres that are stored in Porsche's 'tyre garage', this post is talking about replacing my summer tyres on my summer set of wheels (21" RS Spyders)

Ah ok, Porsche don't mind mine as Guildford is being redeveloped currently and they lost all the storage space. This means I have the wheels in the shed and get the swap done locally in London. This made it very easy to order tyres in and then get them put on the Summers when I did the swap in April.

I had the car in for a recall and they mentioned the lack of N rated tyres but it's just a recommendation and when they realised they were N rated in 19 and 21 they apologised for bringing it up.

Brexit my arse.

I have yet to have any issue buying tyres from a third party. Cheaper (a lot, as the OP has realised) and at least as quickly as a dealer.

My fronts were worn through last week. Replacements were available within 48hrs.

Who did you get fitting through? I've heard lots of people saying some shops don't put the car up properly and this can cause damage, May not be UK though

Black circles, pretty much next day availability of tyres and fitting. Mine too 1 hour to do 4 the other day.

I'd have to wait 6 weeks to get them done at porsche and pay 30% more for the privilege.

Cool. Which company fitted them? There's a load round here: F1 Autocentres, ATS, some independents etc

i bought the tyres on black circles fully fitted. They suggest a number of local (generally independent) garages to you. I went with a premium one (no extra cost) and just googled a photo fo the garage to make sure it didn't look a total dump!

I think you can get tyres delivered elsewhere too, but personally don't have a view on any so went with the more hassle free way via black circles. Never had an issue, been using for years.

I have a local tyre place that I've been using for 12yrs for all my tyre needs.

Never had issues.

(I'm North Essex based... So if you're near there, drop me an IM ?).

If the car's being jacked and has air suspension you need to put it into jack mode (setting in PCM).

Winters? Summers are easy and most kep tin stock in the UK but Winters are a real pain to get in now and it wasn't like this before. If you know a site that gets around that fantastic and please share. Cheers

Black Circles have added a garage I trust to their network since I last used them, so am gonna go with them and with the Eagle Asym 5's as the 3's I had were decent and price is good too. Thanks for all the replies! ?

I’ve been changing for last 3 years in taycan , use a garage that has the latest alignment machine to check tracking etc . Buy tyres online take to them .£10 a wheel done in 1 hour max .
only availability issue is if trying to buy in late winter in the uk as manafacturers had little stock left.
definetly worth doing, take skiing every year fantastic grip.

We have a very well respected tyre shop near us - they have been supporting motor racing for decades.

They are on the Black Circles panel now.

Used them when I changed all 4 last year (N rated). Really good....better than taking it to OPC. Much cheaper.
