I just purchased this 2021 taycan turbo from CarMax yesterday. Today I saw material/fabric hanging from the bottom of the car so I looked under it and looks like it’s scratched up even has a few holes. Are these holes something to worry about, if water gets in there will there be any damage? Is this normal wear and tear for the Taycan ? The car was sold to me with no stated issues or accidents/damage and it passed all the CarMax inspections and went through reconditioning. The rest of the car is in great condition.

Doesn't CarMax offer a return policy?

Ultimately it could be nothing, but I would get the car up and pull the panel to see if there's damage. If nothing, you can actually replace the panel/underside

Yes they do, I’ll have it looked over in a few days by a different mechanic. I really want to keep it

Firstly, make sure the battery tray is not damaged.
Even small dents (3mm) is the margin for major costs in certain places of the battery cover.
Look at this thread:
https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/t...cost-dealership-is-tom-wood-in-indiana.20407/

Secondly, I don't understand how the car has been damaged like that? It looks like it's driven over a large boulder or something.

With my knowledge of Taycans soft underbelly, I would likely reject the car.

Don’t wait, return it for a refund.
Phone and email them without delay telling them your intention.
The longer you leave it the more chance they could say the car was ok when sold by them.
As others have said, even 3mm damage in the wrong place to the battery protection plate can result in a $40k+ battery replacement claim. Only a Porsche HV tech could assess if any of the damage is in a bad place.

You seem to have a 10 day money back term.

Bring it to Porsche to confirm , call Carmax first and tell them situation - Carmax should pay for the cost for Porsche to look at it

This is pretty bad. They can void your battery warranty for this. I would return it. And always check the car underneath when purchasing 2nd hand…
I was thinking about this....

I would be at a Porsche centre first thing Monday morning to ask for a quick visual and ask about the battery warranty - given the level of damage.

If there is even the slightest possibility of any issue, I would then return it to the seller by Monday afternoon.

If your 8 year battery warranty is void, you are potentially sitting on a major, major problem.

It could also mean the car is worth far less than what you paid for it, as it potentially has no battery warranty and has underbody damage.

Worse still, if the battery failed and Porsche refuse the warranty (which I bet they would) you can't even fall back on your insurance, as you didn't damage it!

I would also worry about the rest of the car if that's what the previous owner did.

Personally, I would just get a refund ASAP.

I would think your car has some recalls/updates that need to be done. Take it to Porsche ASAP (before your 10 day return period ends) and get those done. They will do an inspection (mention the damage). If there are any dents under there that are more than 3mm deep, your floor will be required to be replaced ($11,000). Then talk with CarMax and decide if you want to keep it.

let us calm down. I have dents under my vehicle > 3mm ones. A free inspection at my Porsche dealer was done and they told me not to worry. They added some paint to the scratches to avoid rust etc. So this vehicle from OP could be fine. What I would do is discus with Carmax what you could do. You want this vehicle, they want a sale. Don’t return the vehicle because a forum told you to do. Do it when Carmax (and Porsche) tells you this vehicle needs inspection.

100% report it to the supplying dealer immediately.

How much have you driven the car since delivery?

Minor scuffs wouldn't bother me at all, but some of those look like hefty damage. I'd want to be absolutely sure Porsche were OK with them, and would also want them repaired back to a "known good" state.

Get a decent OPC (not one that regularly overcharges) to look. I was told by one OPC that I needed a new undertray because there was a hole; another OPC said “everyone has holes and scratches, don’t worry”. It is pretty hard to drive a Taycan without scraping on a driveway or speed bump somewhere.

Thorough Porsche inspection will run you about $1,000, but best peace of mind. You pay for the inspection and Carmax covers any defiecincies. While there, have the VIN transfer to your Porsche account and you are all set…. Congrats on your beautiful Tycan which will keep you smiling from origin to destination every single time ( my psychiatrist on wheels)
