Thoughts on buying a CPO Base or 4S?

I'm considering a CPO Taycan, the prices are tempting. This being the space where people talk Taycan issues, any resources or tips you folks might have about models and/or years to go for (or avoid)? I'm walking into this purchase with my eyes wide open. There are independent Porsche technicians near me but I'm assuming Taycans need to be serviced by dealers. What am I looking at for routine maintenance costs? Maybe wait a few years for CPO 2025s? Let your wisdom flow. Thanks!

Have you driven the RWD or 4s to compare?
Avoid 2020, better to get later year because kinks were worked out. Stick to CPO for the warranty

Yes, I've driven just about every flavor. In a way, I kind of like the base model for a few different reasons. Simplicity being one of them. It's more about what to expect after the purchase.

RWD is the most fun.
2020 had the highest probability of being a lemon so safer to avoid.
Service is rare, its usually brake fluid and air liter every 20k miles, tires every 10k mikes.

Yeah, the rear drive model may not have the thrust of the others, but it has that frisky Miata quality about it. There’s one particular 2023 that I am circling. 5000 miles and equipped just the way I want it. Thanks for your input!

Just bought a CPO base car two weeks ago. I avoided 2020 because of problems and also it doesn’t feature plug and play charging where the charger recognizes your car and account when on road trips. Definitely get the big battery. I agree with others to get a CPO. The new 2025 is not as good looking as the previous version IMO. They should never have changed the front lights. The only big positive of a new one is more range. Best value and most supply is the 2021 right now as many are/have come off of lease. Great time to buy right now as electric cars are getting killed on resale, Taycan included. I got 45% off sticker with a CPO on a 2021. Used 2021's with CPO are running 40-45% off sticker. 3 years old 20-40k miles. Most around 30k miles. 4s's are running about 12-13k more than the base. I’m very happy with the car and the price I paid. Good luck with your search

Yea, the 4S is kind of the sweet spot. Really don't need the extra go power of the Turbos.

Coming from Teslas, although I love how my 2022 RWD handles, I miss the instant torque, especially I drive on freeway mostly, it's not as fast I used to cut through traffic. I will go with 4S next time.

But, there's a next time so it sounds like you enjoy the car and haven't been riddled with problems. I understand that forums are the worst of all worlds where people come to gripe and complain. But I have to believe there are well tempered people out there offering up real world experiences. Thanks for taking the time.

I want to buy a Porsche for so long, and I'm only consider EVs, there is nothing as attractive as Taycan right now, it fits my driving style and have room for family.
There are things I'm surprised after I bought the car and visit this forum, mostly around the PCM, it's many years behind and will continue to get outdated because Tesla continue updates 10+ year-old cars, but pretty much no update from Porsche. I'm getting used to the PCM, so it doesn't bother me as much. The only "minor" regret is the speed, and there is nothing I can do about it unless I upgrade to 4S or better.

I sometimes drive wife's MY, it is faster and more responsive at any speed. 4S will resolve this problem for me.

Interesting enough, I have had five Teslas and still have one. I bought the base Taycan. I don’t miss the power of the Tesla. The “punch it”, and snap your head back for your friends gets old really quickly. It’s not comfortable driving around town all the time like that. You end up generally driving the car with smooth but powerful acceleration. I love fast cars but I like them to build speed. That’s the reason people love naturally aspirated engines. They build speed in a linear fashion. People will pay the price of a house for a GT3 for just that reason, the engine is fast but builds its speed linearly. The base Taycan drives so much better than my Tesla it’s really kind of a joke, and the car has plenty of power and gives it to you in a smooth linear fashion. It’s all you need unless you want to drag race at the light against a Tesla. Pass

Good observation about the pick up. The Taycan philosophy is different than most other EVs that focus on the neck snap and non linear speed build up.

I bought a 2023 Base RWD Taycan CPO six months ago and love it. It wasn't cheap, but I did get 30%+ off the sticker (AND the warranty extensions!). I've had zero problems (save for a delay in finding parts for the brake line replacements) and am planning to keep this one around for a while. It has a few quirks (but nothing I can't live with) and as my daily "good weather" driver it makes my ride home from work worth looking forward to.

I agree that the all-wheel drive is probably a better year-round choice, but the tuning of the suspension on the RWD is just plain fun...which is why I have a 12-year old AWD Benz "beater" for the winters!!

Colors! Colors are great. Though white with Mission E wheels is hard to beat.
