Hi all,

I've just let my Porsche Connect expire. I extended it last year, but it wasn't really of any value to me as my car doesn't get signal in the garage, and the car doesn't support wifi.

I just got my letter through for the campaign, should I renew my Porsche Connect so they can monitor my car remotely, without the 3h dealer visits?

Photo from yesterday - unrelated, but it was panic at the charger for me and AN20 DAY both of us had quite a few issues getting charged!

Great ok thanks for confirming - I wasn't sure if the Porsche Connect price was to cover the Vodaphone roaming charged of the on-board sim card. I thought it was. Thanks.

The data package for the onboard SIM is separate to the Porsche Connect connectivity.

The data package is largely irrelevant as it is expensive.

Porsche Connect is free for the first 3 years and worth it i'd say.

I have been trying to figure out the same. I got the WRS0 letter a few days ago and it says the car should be connected to the internet regularly with Privacy off. I didn't renew my Connect last month because the car was in the dealer for 3 weeks for a HV charger replacement. When I got it back I haven't really missed the Connect features so still haven't renewed.

RIght now, the car has the in built SIM with a signal, the LTE icon is crossed out and I don't have a connect sub.

Should the LTE symbol be active to indicate an internet connection ??

The LTE service is active when using connect services and shouldn't have a line through it.

Note that this may not mean that Porsche can't keep tabs on your car - just that you are prevented from using it.

There are 2 SIMs as standard - one for Porsche Connect and the other for the optional Vodafone data package.

Odd that if your car is being monitored that they don't list prerequisites.

The letter is dreadful. It just talks about making sure your car is connected to the internet for 45 mins regulary but gives no detail on what to check or do.

You do not need to have Porsche Connect service enabled for vehicle data upload.
You do need privacy mode deactivated.
You do need working data comm service. If LTE symbol has been replaced by pair of horizontal lines then your data comm link is down. Separate matter from Porsche Connect service subscription.

You do wonder why they don't just write that simple paragraph in the letter!

People on here are the enthusiasts and we still struggle with it all. God knows what the average Joe makes of it.

Or even provide a Web address and have an FAQ there......like other customer focused organisations would.

At least in US, the primary customer for recalled vehicle owner notification notices is the regulator.
It is also likely that the staff producing the owner notice is unaware of the complexity of enabling "internet connection for 45 minutes".

Ok so just leave as is and leave privacy mode disabled (even this doesn't block Porsche in reality).

Thanks, I think all is fine. I have a cross through the phone symbol but LTE is active. On startup I see two horizontal lines where LTE is which must mean the data SIM is connecting.

I didn’t renew Porsche Connect either as I didn’t find it useful. I contacted my Porsche dealership regarding WRS0, who said to bring the car in once they have the software update available to apply from Porsche.

Hopefully, deactivating Privacy Mode works, and the update gets applied OTA, and saves me a trip to the dealership.

The diagnostic software will not be installed OTA. OTA is for vehicle monitoring until the update is installed.

I have some doubt about the fact that we may have to bring the car to the dealer to install the diagnostic software. I hope not for Porsche.
