Exterior Valet / Detailing

I've read some horror stories about swirl marks and paint damage by valets and am getting paranoid.

Any advice about getting someone to do this? I have booked these guys for an 'Exterior Safe Wash' on Wed morning. I know nothing about this area and this is my first car of any real value. Any advice / anything I should be asking them so that I can be confident they know what they're doing? Any recommendations in the northwest?

It's something I might consider doing myself in future, but not just yet.

Pretty stupid probably, I only let detailers with expensive cars on their website (sports cars, luxury sedans, high end SUV’s etc). For me that feels safe as others - with more expensive vehicles - trusted them, so they must be OK. I don’t see any high end vehicle on the “Safe Wash” site, so a no go for me.

- edit: they advertise with a VW Tiguan, so expect a “Tiguan” experience. Def. a no go for me.

Red flag for me - it’s a franchise operation or similar, no fixed location.
The scope of service looks about what most of us would do at home for a basic wash.
Tell us where you are and someone may be able to recommend a good local firm.

The method of washing which is used is very important.
Using wash mits, even with the 2 bucket method will eventually create swirl marks.
Not using a drying aid to dry the car will cause swirl marks

There are very few people I will allow to touch my car
