Red circle of death on my turbo with 22k miles. Not new news but appears 2020 Turbo models are failing with increased frequency. Interesting update perhaps is that they are no longer replacing individual cells but the whole battery module. Crate ordered for my battery pack, dealer assuming turnaround will be a month or longer. Was given a Macan loaner.

Anyone else on the same replacement path with a new complete module vs individual cells?

Have a new 2025 pack going in my turbo. Granted still waiting for it to arrive.

You should as well. I believe the gen 1 packs are all gone. Either way I would expect longer then a month wait currently at two months myself and still no word on when the battery may show up.

If you get that pack would be very interesting to run some datalogs on the car.
I wonder if they gimped the capacity and output or if you actually get the updated range and also updated output.

If you get the updated output then it is possible that these cars will make over 800hp all the time with some tuning.

Several people were told / claimed that they are getting a new j1.2 battery back and never came back to confirm.

Wouldn’t put my hopes up

As for no longer replacing cells but whole modules; that was always the case in Europe. Replacing cells requires too much in depth knowledge, not enough HV engineers for that and can’t exactly be trained easly

They better replace all gen1 batteries....really hope this would happen one day!
Give me a Turbo S J1.2 pack/setup please to make good :)
And then get @prj to tune the h#^€^#&!! out of it!
Wishful thinking perhaps, on the other hand I think this may eventually happen.

In the US, per HV battery recall TSBs, the battery with problem modules is removed from the Taycan by the dealer, shipped in a crate to a contractor, where defective modules are replaced, then returned to the dealer for re-installation.
Individual cells have never been replaced - just modules.
In some cases the entire HV battery is replaced but this is most often done by dealer service.

I will be happy too.

I had a cell module in my J1 4S changed a few months ago.

The tech told me that at some point they will be replacing complete battery packs with later battery tech.

He also said that the range would be throttled back so there would be no increase.

He also acknowledged that some smart guys would likely step in to lift the range back up to the full capability, so would be a total win getting a replacement battery pack with increased range FOC.

Am thinking that I should be charging to 100% rather than 80% to encourage that likelihood - step in @prj

I recently leased a 2020 TURBO CPO and received the below recall notice yesterday. I'm new to the Taycan world and this forum, but wanted to get your opinions on whether they will replace the entire battery or just a module? Thanks in advance for any insight/comments.
PS - This is the best vehicle I've ever owned and I absolutely love it!

The only way to do that is not let the battery discharge fully.

Never letting it charge full means that it will never be able to be top balanced. Also it would require all new rigorous testing just to put the new battery in the old car with some custom ranges, as opposed to dumping it in and then flashing the already existing BMS calibration from J1.2 with minor tweaks.

I would say that tech is clueless and it makes zero sense to do that.

Most likely the full range will be available...
It will be lower than J1.2 because the powertrain is not as efficient, but it will still be more than J1.1.

I was hoping for a 2025 pack too but they wouldn't approve it and just replaced the 8 bad cells. Porsche had the car from 3/6 - 5/23 for the "repair". I requested a 2025 pack but was denied.

I have a 2020 Taycan Turbo that according to the dealer has a 2025 battery pack. I have the service invoice for replacing the battery. The part number is 9J1-915-100-EX, priced at $55294.18. The dash shows a 275 mile range estimate when the battery is full.
