Are Porsche owners arrogant?

Well the spotlight effect comes to mind - other people generally care much less about you than one might believe/internalise.

That’s what I tell my wife when she’s self-conscious about her i4. I know that’s not exotic in most places, but it does stand out here, especially at our daughter’s high school. But our daughter reassures her wife that when her male classmates give my wife a thumbs-up as she drives by, hey, a lot of guys there like seeing a car like that, so, whatever.

it's more of a size of car matter IMO. When I drove my X5, in-law's full size truck, van, etc, everyone gives you space.

nah... not outside of America. most people (in the UK at least, probably Europe too) think people driving around in huge gas guzzlers are twats. not that the drivers are self aware enough to care though.

Confirm for Germany, though the huge-gas-guzzler-comunity is still strong and feeling pretty comfortable living in the past.

Probably the opposite here in the UK.
In my Porsche I have had truck drivers try to prevent me overtaking and in my Ferrari it has been "swap you mate?"

Brits were always more sympathetic to Italians than Germans.

I had a Taycan for a year or so then recently jumped into a 992 Turbo S, with a really cool spec so I've had a lot of fun going to meet and greets and shows, etc. I'm up in the northeast (NNJ/NY area).

My observation is the Porsche owners are more pure enthusiasts and tend to be somewhat more understated. Even in GT3 types.

First, there is a wide range of Porsches, even in the 911, so not everyone dropped $300k for their cars. Many are owned out of pure love for the car and joy in the ownership. I see a lot of pride in all the older Porsches, etc.

Second, the Porsche owners at these meets seem to "get it." They're quite and laid back, happy to talk about your car and celebrate you're now in the club.

Lastly, my observation in these areas is that everyone who can write a check wants to get a Lambo or a McLaren and the shows are full of them. Last week I was at a show with 2 992 Turbo S, but probably 15 Lambo/McLarens. This is where the ego seems to live. They come in hot, revving the engines despite knowing they shouldn't, and they seem to operate with more bravado. I've met several of them and they're all good guys, but seem to be far more aggressive than what I've observed in Porsche owners.

The Ferraris are a different owner entirely (IMO). They seem to be the royalty of the bunch because they didn't just show up on impulse and buy their cars. They seem more like Porsche owners in their demeanor.

Now, I'm a novice so what do I know. I could be way off base, but that's how I've seen it. To be clear, people I see at car shows have all been really cool. I should say a bunch of lambo guys invited me to ride with their car club, which was really nice of them.

I agree in general with your perception of Porsche Club members being a friendly lot, however, they really are an ICE-based organization. In my experience there is almost no interest in EVs, either Porsche or others, and they like to spend their time talking about the pros and cons of air vs. water cooled engines.

Nothing wrong with that, but the PCA is not really a club I participate in at this point. In fact, I’m organizing a meet and greet for Taycan owners in the Pacfic Northwest for August and doing it entirely within the Taycan Forum rather than PCA.

This is not to say that I don’t appreciate the ICE Porsches. My son and I spent 2 days at PECLA driving the entire 718 series including a GT3 RS, and had a great time. It is worth noting that after driving the 3 RS I drove a Taycan 4s around the track and it was just as fast, just as much fun, but a whole lot quieter ?

PEC is great. They just celebrated 10 years. I actually wonder why they didn’t have these decades before.

Such a great point about ICE vs EV. The Taycan I had was my first Porsche and for sure it feels like if I had one at these shows, I'd be shunned. Interestingly I've been to about 5 shows this spring/summer and haven't see a single Taycan. Plenty of other performance sedans at them, just no EVs.

To your point about fun and the comparison. I posted something similar in March when I made the switch, but I've had a similar experience. The 992 is ferocious and I had it tuned so it's just a wild animal at this point, but having it doesn't at all diminish how powerful and fun the Taycan was. To me, best pure sports car is the 911. Best pure performance sedan (or however you classify it) is the Taycan. I was thinking yesterday, once my midlife crisis is over, hopefully I can sell the 911 for a good value and get a pre-owned Turbo GT to enjoy again.

Disagree, in London at least. Have a large SUV and drivers generally definitely give Taycan more leeway.

Agree.. my son observed this in busy parking lots. The Tursimo get more leeway than my 911 Cab.

I would never give up my 911.. I love my Taycan.. but my 911 is forever.

It’s because of my 996 that I dumped my Tesla and went to a Cross Turismo. And it’s because of the community that I even considered that change… so are Porsche owners arrogant? I sure am, but that’s not because I own a Porsche. I found Tesla owners to be way more of the smell their own farts types. I own a Porsche and will probably always have 1-2 Porsches because the owners I meet are always so cool and I am able to sort anything out on the car I want to because the community, out of complete spite for the dealership service network, reverse engineers legit everything on their own.

If my Taycan isn't unique to the Commonwealth, then how can I maintain my arrogant attitude?

Seriously, I don't think I've ever seen another Taycan in the state, in the wild, although I saw one at the local indie Porsche shop, and apparently the driver lives in Amherst, though somehow I've never seen him on the roads.

By contrast, yesterday afternoon, when I pulled into a sketch NYC parking garage (or is "sketch" redundant in that context?), an attendant greeted me (in an accent that I would have thought sets off ICE alarms) with, "Your car is too expensive for us."
Except that literally about ten feet from him was a parked Taycan (which looked more expensive than mine).
That seems to be the nice thing about NYC: even though the place has plenty of people possibly looking to steal things, plenty of other people have even more valuable things to steal.
(A couple times when I've found a parking spot on the street, within the same block have been even more expensive parked vehicles!)

I’ve encountered a few Taycan owners on the street and I am 3/5 on folks who acknowledge or wave, etc. Other Porsche car owners sometimes acknowledge me as well but I think the more traditionalists probably wish the Taycan would go away lol.

Btw I heard a lot of jokes at a recent meetup where there were two of us but 60+ ICE vehicles. The jokes were always about range lol.
