I experience this sometimes, my Taycan lost/reduce power when it happens, but no brake applied.

Actual automatic braking I've only had once early on in my 2021 when driving into a tunnel with a metal mesh (water drain) in the ground. Fairly sure they fixed that with an update as I've never had it since.

The "take control of the steering wheel" message would be annoying at times and would typically happen when my steering would exactly match what the automatic steering (innodrive?) was planning on doing as well, so my inputs would be so light that the thing thinks I'm not doing anything.

Sometimes I ended up giving the steering wheel an intentional wobble every now and then.

I haven't had this type of breaking, but I did have it say once (in 8,000 miles) that my hands were not on the wheel when they were.

That said, about this past weekend, while driving from Moab to Denver (350 miles) in range mode, I would be driving about 80mph with cruise control and all of a sudden the car would start breaking suddenly, and it would decide to limit me at 65mph. The loss of speed was dramatic and, I think, quite dangerous as it took a second or two for me to figure out what was going on and then look down to find and press the sport button. There are plenty of DC fast chargers along that route, so it wasn't like I was going to run out of juice before the next one.

The original NHTSA complaint above is an unusual scenario I would say ….. different to what other posters are describing above.

Yes when driving with ACC and/or ALK active … there are stacked warnings if your hands are not putting steering pressure on the steering wheel, but those warnings cycle through a white warning, a yellow or amber warning and only then the red active warning. The complaint describes a straight to active warning while hands are on the wheel.

There is a scenario that I experience often where a “phantom event” occurs while driving with ACC and ALK active and with hands on the wheel … in my case often when in toll roads that use the plastic dividers and usually when there is a slight curve in the road …. For some reason the Taycan systems often pick up the plastic toll lane dividers (or the cars the other side of them) as an impending issue and the brakes get applied hard … often at 65-80 mph. Scares the living sh*# out of you.

What the compliant is stating seems different to both scenarios above tho……

"Take over steering" happens to me so often that I've encounter in all kinds of situation. I had pressure on the steering wheel in many cases, few times when I was changing lanes. I'm so use to sudden lost of power, I'm able to correct it quickly without put me into danger situation.

I've turn off all assist functions (ACC or ALK), it didn't help.

I will occasionally get that warning when driving on a long straight highway and I just give the steering wheel a slight wiggle and the message goes away.

to clarify this is with ACC/Innodrive OFF. Straight, curved, traffic, no traffic, happens randomly. Sometimes I can drive an hour without it happening, sometimes I do a short 15 minute drive and it happens 2+ times.

Lots of complaints about it online. Even Matt Farah has the issue on his new used Taycan which he mentions in a video on youtube.
