I’m sure you know this being an Alps person, but if your drive remains the same angle all the way and doesnt flatten at the top then you will also need a solution to prevent the heavy vehicle sliding back down while parked In winter.

I thought my driveway was steep, but just been and measured it the same way (phone app) and it's a mere 11deg.

I have a J1.1 GTS ST and it goes up, but has to be raised.

IME the Smart Lift function is very reliable.

If I were you I'd borrow a loan car and check it, as your drive may be too steep. You must check against the same body style (so NOT a CT if you're getting a GTS) with air suspension (all GTSs have this).

Also, whilst the bottom is plastic, if you have stones in the wrong place on your drive it's possible you'll scratch the battery tray, which can cause issues warranty wise.

What you are worrying about is the “breakover angle”.
super helpful calculator. You also need the approach/departure angle because the nose and tail can scrape too.

When we relaid our drive I tried all sorts of things to get someone to apply some simple measurements and maths - no one would do this. I even offered the local university the question as a paid practice case for their surveying students — they refused. In the end I had to trust a company who dug the whole thing up and did get it right but without the benefit of any actual facts.

You are right …. This calculator assumes that the points measured at a distance that is 50% of the wheelbase from the break over point (peak) ….. the surface is flat or a consistent surface ……. In my case it was …..but in an arced driveway break over point you will need to calculate radius etc…..

The advice to actually use the car itself is sound. When I purchased my Taycan five years ago, I expressed my reservation to the dealer, who then drove a demo Taycan over to my house and tested it for me. The problem with using a calculator is that there are too many variables to measure; at a minimum, you'd need to measure:
  1. slope of the driveway into the road
  2. slope of the driveway sideways along the road
  3. slope of the road into the driveway
  4. slope of the road along the driveway
My driveway only slopes about 10degrees into the road (#1), but the road slopes another 3degrees into the driveway (#3). Even then, I have to raise my car when leaving the driveway nose out. Ironically, I don't have to raise my car when entering from the road onto the driveway. Like I said, too many variables to calculate when you can just have someone drive the car over to test it.

Reads like misspoken Bridget :CWL:
I totally agree. Not sure where they got the goofy name, but on the plus side it does work really well.

My neighbor uses it to break the angle at the curb so that he can get up his driveway with his Audi R8 Spyder without scraping the nose or the bottom of the car.

Hello hive. I’m looking at buying
a MY23 GTS but am concerned about my driveway angle of 15 degrees. The car has the adjustable height feature but I can’t find approach angles with it on the highest setting. Thanks.

The exact ride height may depend on whether you use 20 or 21 inch tires, if I recall the rolling radiuses are slightly different. Even with 21 inch wheels, I've not had a problem of a couple of pretty difficult driveways
