I'm a fairly new owner of a 2021 Taycan Cross Truismo 4S. It currently has 34,000 miles on it and the original warranty runs out at the end of next month. Last week while at my local Porsche dealer having a recall accomplished I was talking with the service writer and he mentioned to me that he would never own one of these without a warranty. Since I am an aircraft mechanic by trade I have never bought any extended warranties for the cars I've owned. I always done all the repairs and maintenance myself. But I've never owned an EV. So, I wondering if I should purchase one? I only plan on keeping this car for another 2 years or so as I may try the new electric Cayman when it arrives. With that in mind I priced a 2 year extended warranty from Porsche and was quite surprise to hear that it would about $6500. Sounded crazy to me. I'm asking for different opinions on the subject, any thoughts will be appreciated.

There are several forum threads, I've written on my most recent experiences as well. Suggest you shop around a lot and get it done before your warranty expires (your options change when it is over). There are several "recommended" dealers with favorable pricing in the threads.

One word: absolutelly!
(Even if you were Porsche engineer)

edit after i realised that you got a quote of 6500$ for two years: that’s not normal! I paid around 3000€ for three years!

$6500 for 2 years ? To my mind, this is wrong price. As far as I know 2 yrs warranty extend is cheaper than it. Here in Korea, Porsche official dealer offers the warranty service at $3,000 for 2 years!

Heir in EU it is USD3,2k per year (factory one). I skipped it. Don't want to buy cost in advance. Battery is covered for 8 years/160k km anyway.
Note: we had only 2-year bump to bump warranty, from 2024 3-year.

In the UK it costs roughly £3k for 3 years direct from Porsche.
It's a no-brainer really, if you have any issue whatsoever it'll cost more than £1k to fix on these cars.

In the USA, currently it's possible to get 4 years of Porsche Extended Warranty for under $4000. Of course this depends on mileage etc. But $6K for two years is not a mistake, it's a rip-off. The dealer is preying on the OP as an uninformed newcomer.

Yes, I think the forum has full consensus on that decision.
Yes, the HV battery has longer warranty, but we know a few expensive components are known to fail and will easily exceed the warranty extension cost. However, I would read the small print of what is not covered, so not to be surprised.

My consensus is -taking into account my local cost of USD3,2K annual warranty (VAT is 27% here)- if my car generates a fault that costs me more the 1,5X of the annual warranty fee, that will be its last day in my garage and go back to an ICE 911 as a daily.
If it is in this 'budget' I am fine with it.
I already had an AC onboard charger replace after warranty, Porsche replaced it for USD650 complementary since the 2Y warranty only expired by 2 months.

Be sure it is the factory one not the one that is a third-party and sells by your dealer. I just checked my one in Hungary again and it is €2750 per year including our local 27% VAT. That would be strange differences like this between European countries.

Third party is available here as well on half price with lots of exemption for example, electrical parts incl. HV system.
