So after having the AA fix my Taycan (12v battery flat) very quickly and efficiently and thanking them for it...

I went over to my Mother's house to visit (we are in an extended bubble).

Parked in the drive. In Park, handbrake light on and powered off.

Went in.

Couple of minutes later.

Heard alarm.

Parked Taycan slipped down the drive and into the back of my Mother's car.

This photo shows where the Taycan was parked.

So it moved from that parking spot all the way down the drive.

"Let's be careful out there" as they say in Hill Street Blues.

Car at Porsche Glasgow. Call in to Porsche UK.

I am sorry to hear that. It is not clear if the car slid down with the wheels locked (limited tire traction) or if the wheels rolled (handbrake failure).
Looking at the photo it looks like the car has the Michelin Sport Summer tires. Summer tires are extremely dangerous and slippery on snow so it might be the former.

Wow.
They look like tyre tread marks in the snow so appears that the wheels have rolled rather than been locked and slid down. Handbrake not working I guess?
Sorry for you and what looks like a pretty new car.
Please report back if/when you hear anything from Porsche.

Yikes. I sure agree with @bootsie that it appears the tires rolled. Are you certain the car was in Park before you turned the car off? The wheels should not be able to roll in Park.

Those are summer tires, and they'll be hockey pucks in weather like that. It slid, no doubt. At least you only hit your own family's other car, and no-one was in either car, because it'd be pretty easy to get into a real accident out in traffic driving on those tires in snow.

From the picture it really does look like the car rolled. It’s almost like it started sliding, and the ABS kicked in and the tires started turning a little bit.

They are summer tyres. I will never park on that incline again......

It'll get fixed and at least its at Porsche Glasgow and not my drive where it would annoy me no end.

So sorry to hear and see the damage. It certainly looked like the car rolled down and did not slide down.

I am very surprised about the two issues we have heard here now. I was in the belief that when the electric parking brake is engaged the transmissions are also locked. That certainly is something that needs further looking into! That is scary.

Here is a section from the Good to Know app describing the parking lock.

Activating the P transmission range automatically
Hold the vehicle stationary by pressing the brake pedal.
D or R transmission range selected.
  • Open the driver’s door and driver side seat belt.
The parking lock and the electric parking brake are activated automatically.
The brake warning light and the P transmission range display light up on the instrument cluster
    – or –
  • Switch off the vehicle using the power button.
The parking lock is activated automatically.
The P transmission range display lights up on the instrument cluster.
The parking brake is also activated when parking the vehicle on inclines and gradients of over 8 %. The brake warning light

I wouldn't jump to conclusions. Sliding tires can create clean verticle lines.

this posting and the other one makes me sad - I believe the Taycan is not Porsche's finest hour…PMCC overheating, 12V issues, PCM software bugs, connectivity, lack of WiFi support, North American Fast charging network sucks, rapid shutdowns, and now Parking Brake reliability issue

o_O

I hope we find a reason for this sliding mis-behavior - and I'm glad no one was hurt, but disappointed it happened at all. This could be a big liability issue for Porsche - if that had hit someone the liability for a rolling car in park with parking brake engaged would be a doozy…

@Peter Kelly: I’m sorry to hear this - my condolences! It really stuck in my stomach watching that those pictures. Hope you get it fixed soon, and be back on track :)

I’ve noticed that sometimes I get the “P” sign in my mobile app, and other times I don’t. However the vehicle is parked downhill, in locked position so I know it doesn’t roll away (ref. pictures below). Not knowing why, as in both situations I have made sure the brake warning light is already present inside:

I think from now on I’ll always use the “stop” button before leaving my BatMobile. Thanx @Scandinavian for that tip :like:

Hi Peter. Really sad and sorry to see those photos today. I hope you do not have to wait too long for the car to be repaired. Please update us when it's fixed and you're back on the road. Good luck.

So sorry to see and I hope they get you back on the road soon. Luckily no one was hurt (other than feelings/pride). The car was on summer tyres and cannot be expected to stay on such an incline. I doubt the car was at fault. I guess its down to the snow melting from the tyre surface when stationary. The snow that sticks to the tyres is what creates the traction to the snow on the ground.

Likely the tires cooled some after sitting, and the longer they sit the harder they are getting. Eventually 2+ ton car will start sliding. Since sliding friction is less than static friction, it's not going to slow down until it hits something.

If it was faulty parking brakes, then it wouldn't have waiting until now to start happening, we'd have crashed Taycans all over....
