Car died over night…

Everyone who had the 12v battery issue was while their car was plugged in on a charger waiting to charge later with a charging profile.
To my knowledge nobody has reported a dead 12v battery while not plugged in a charger, so the bug has something to do with charging.

My Taycan Turbo died overnight yesterday. Had 30% left. Not plugged in to the charger. Had to call Porsche Assistance.

Was it parked in a (underground) concrete garage where it has limited connectivity to mobile network?

And so, it strikes again.... 2nd time this month, 3rd time in total. Was on direct charge - NO timer or profile. Did NOT use the app and had background update turned off.
Just ridiculous....

I was reading about Tesla 12V issues and they have a similar issue although they do get some warnings. One thing that stuck out was once the battery goes completely dead it is dead forever, yes you can charge a deep cycle battery after fully discharged but it will never be the same. So if it happens Porsche must install a new one.

I was reading about Tesla 12V issues and they have a similar issue although they do get some warnings. I had the 12V battery die on my 2012 Model S twice. Once early, never explained (similar to what we have with the Taycan now), and a second time due to age. IIRC, the Tesla 12V battery was a lead-acid AGM style (like a motorcycle or personal watercraft). As you point out, that technology isn't suitable for deep cycle usage.

Porsche is using a Lithium Ion 12V battery in the Taycan (and a number of other models). When it "dies" it isn't actually completely dead - the voltage goes low enough that a relay opens disengaging the battery. Once you "jump" the 12V system, you should expect to be able to recharge to full with normal operation and capacity. It would only need to be replaced if was one of the early batteries with a firmware issue (on the battery itself).

Talked with the dealer today. Apparently there was an update in October targeted to fix the 12 volt issue. And my car has it. Well, obviously something failed there, so they want it in for a checkup next Tuesday. So we’ll see what transpires then...

As a side note; dealer said they saw an error message on the car related to the window washers, which I’ve written about in another thread on these forums. So I guess the Taycan has told the servers in Germany this at some point

Many members have reported they had a dead 12v battery even after that fix. Our speculation is that it fixed one bug but there are still others left to be ironed out as you have experienced first hand. Good luck and keep us updated with what they find out.

Will definitely keep you posted on any development. Just don’t hold your breath for any epiphany..... I’m not entirely convinced the German engineers have it quite figured out yet...

Just tried to get in my 4S this morning to find it totally dead. Of even greater concern is the manual key won’t open the car either. PCM and App stopped working 3 weeks ago and I’m waiting for Porsche to get back to me with a date for it to go in.?

Sorry to hear that. That is the second Taycan reported dead in this forum this week without being charged. I am afraid as the weather is getting colder and/or the 12v batteries gets older we will be seeing more and more dead Taycans...

The manual key can be a bit tricky to turn. It requires a bit more force than what feels necessary. You'll feel a somewhat distinct "click" when it actually turns over. I had to try a couple of times at first as it felt like I was close to breaking something.
