how long before your current cpo runs out should you wait before buying extended? i believe mine is until next year sometime (need to check)
It's important to understand that CPO or not, purchasing an Extended Warranty becomes more expensive and more complicated once the car's factory warranty has ended. In the USA, the factory warranty is not the same as the additional warranty provided by the terms of CPO. Many folks are confused and annoyed by this - dealerships and 3rd party extended warranty sellers often will decline to sell to owners whose car's factory warranty has ended. When they will engage, it becomes necessary to have an inspection done, along the same lines as the inspection that qualifies a car as certified pre-owned. The owner pays for that, and the quoted cost for the extended warranty tends to be higher.

Bottom line: If you are thinking about an Extended Warranty, get it sorted before your Factory Warranty concludes.

Mine runs out in September 2026. But I am close to 50k miles so I went ahead and got it now. Every 10k miles, the price goes up. The price also allegedly goes up as your car ages, so it’s recommended to get coverage sooner even if it overlaps. But that is coming from sales reps… so who knows what the truth really is.
One nice thing about the Porsche EV Plan is you can buy it anytime and it won’t take affect until after the original factory warranty runs out so you don’t have to worry about overlaps.

Porsche VSC doesn't cover the battery, so I personally wouldn't consider it.
From what I know, it is yet to be determined what actually happens when Taycan HV batteries or modules need to be replaced on US Taycans no longer within Porsche's 8-year/100,000-mile HV battery warranty that have third-party service plans that claim to include coverage for the HV battery.

Many 3rd-party service plans exclude "pre-existing conditions".

Do the HV battery problems (caused by the supplier) described by Porsche in their ARB6/ARB7 recalls for all 2020-2024 Taycans count as "pre-existing conditions" which will be excluded from coverage by the 3rd-plans?

The ARB6/ARB7 recall remedy - update software to detect problems - did not repair/replace defective battery hardware.

Fidelity does, and so does Xcare. For the length of the warranty that you purchase with them.
When I got my quotes 3 months ago, Fidelity DID NOT cover the HV battery, and XCare did. I spoke to 2 Fidelity agents and also read the contract. They told me no one covers it (but XCare did).

The rep I spoke to offered me a Fidelity Max and Pro versions. The Pro covers the HV battery but was significantly more expensive as expected.

Interesting. How much more expensive? Just curious.

Sorry I got it backwards. The Max version is the one that covers the HV battery.
Porsche Taycan Extended Warranty Pricing from Porsche - 2025 1760815561529-n8

For 60 months/ 60k miles starting immediately when you sign for the pro was $5200, and he says the Max is about twice as much but I didn’t ask for the exact quote. The deductible is $100 for both.

I see the battery issues are now being viewed by Porsche as just 'ageing' during the first 8 years (when actually it's often defective manufacture).

But you can bet your bottom dollar 3rd party insurers will class a module failure as 'normal wear and tear' after 8 years.

Heads we win, tails you lose.

As someone who drives about 12,500 miles/year, I was a bit surprised by how low the warranty mileage was for the initial quote I received: 60,000 miles (only 10k miles past the base warranty.) This is for my 2023 Taycan 4 with 34,000 miles.

Assuming the same driving patterns, the 60,000 mile extended warranty will start when my car hits 4 years/50,000 miles...and would expire about 10.5 months later when the car hits 60k miles. So obviously I requested longer-term coverage options. Those are included in the table below as well.

Extended Warranty DurationExtended Warranty Cost ($100 deductible)Extended Warranty Cost ($250 deductible)Total Coverage Duration (Base + Extended)Total Coverage Miles (Base + Extended)Best for Cars not exceeding Miles/Year
2 years$4,049$3,69972 months60,00010,000
3 years$4,318$3,92384 months60,0008,500
4 years$4,621$4,17696 months60,0007,500
3 years$6,140$5,45084 months85,00012,000
4 years$7,296$6,41796 months100,00012,500
5 years$7,905$6,926108 months100,00011,000

Since I typically keep my cars 10 years, the 4 year/100,000 mile warranty is definitely the best option given how many miles I accumulate.

Question: Are there other options for longer coverage durations?

Thanks!

Disappointed but not surprised. My 2020 Taycan had the entire battery replaced in 2024 due to one of the recalls. I wonder how they’ll try to spin aging on a relatively new battery.
I don't think it's any coincidence that they are suddenly using the phrase 'ageing' instead of 'fault'.
Even when it's a dormant manufacturing fault.

You did well getting a complete new battery after 4 years!
Does the replacement battery get a new 8 year warranty from 2024?.
