Almost certainly damaged by a tow ball on a truck or SUV..must have hit pretty hard to make that "oerfect" indentation/cut

It as a f150 with a tow bar, missing the ball. I saw it happen and I have the registration.

I filled a police report

Stuff like this really makes me wish Porsche would give us Sentry Mode on the car, with the 4 cameras that already exist.

Really sorry it happened.
I've always installed an independent front+back dashcam on all of our cars, even on Teslas which had sentry mode. The main reason was that dashcams is not Teslas main business, nor is it safety related, so they don't QA their dashcam software as well, which has in the past left people with dashcam/sentry appearing to work, but videos were corrupt of completely missing.

In this case the front camera got broken, so might not have not recorded the incident. Hopefully it would have recorded at least the truck coming in contact with the camera, but it would have been Porsche software, so who knows. Not to mention the possible issues with phantom battery drain while in use - it took Tesla many updates to fine tune it, but Tesla does updates 10x as often, so would have taken Porsche 10x the time to tune it (or longer, given how well they've dealt with things like HV heaters, OBC, or even just phone app integrations).

We had pretty good luck with the Tesla Sentry Mode cam. We caught someone keying my wife's car (painfully, it was only a few months old.) He was identified and prosecuted, and we were reimbursed for the repair.

Plenty of sentry footage on youtube catching people doing bad things. My point was that I don't trust it. I owned 4 Model S over a decade, was active on Tesla forums, and seen a lot of examples of Tesla dashcam malfunctioning, especially on older, not most recent hardware (e.g. 2 years old or older). It usually manifested itself in missing clips, or unplayable clips. I didn't feel like validating dashcam functionality after every update, and those came twice a week sometimes.

It works well but that one time I got a door ding on my new Plaid it didn't capture anything...

Which perfectly illustrates my point - it works most of the time, but not every time.

Just had a 2-channel VIOFO A329S dash cam installed, and within two weeks it has paid for itself.

I was driving on I-405 Northbound on our way to Bellingham when I hit a pothole with my left front tire and it blew. I have video evidence of the whole thing, and the GPS on the system even provided the location. Here is the shot from just before hitting the pothole.

Total repair cost for a new tire, tow, and two Lyft rides was $929.88, and the camera cost $805.93 (installed). The installation was superior BTW. Totally hidden wires connected to passenger-side fuse panel, and the whole installed happened in my garage in < 2 hours.

My claim was filed with WA State DOT, but is being handled by the Skanska contractor responsible for that stretch of roadway. Was told by an emergency vehicle driver while I waited for the tow truck that several cars with low-profile tires had flats the same day. Hopefully this is a slam dunk for reimbursement.
