So today I picked up my approved Porsche Taycan from a dealer. I’ve driven it all of 22 miles parked up on my drive went through some settings and then wanted to park my car better on the drive and it won’t move. I get a number of error messages, including power button fault inspection necessary. If I try to put the car into drive, it will move forward half a foot and then stop.

I’ve had the AA around via Porsche assist to check the 12 V battery as I thought that might be an issue because it’s been in the dealer for a month or so without being driven. However, this seems fine at 13.5 V and they charged up and they still had the same issue.

If I remove the driver assist errors that pop-up as well only the power fault button shows but as soon as I put it into Drive or the other Message come back and headlights keep resetting. I have left the car off for 20 to 30 minutes come back still the same problem.

It’s not a great start to Taycan ownership! The car is clean the sensors and cameras are all clear so I think it’s some kind of major electrical fault.

Unless anybody’s got suggestions?

I'm not a betting man, but I'd be inclined to say: that's got a Ghost immobiliser on it.

Probably previous owner neglected to mention it. Undetectable generally when in 'valet' mode. Not the Centres' fault if it was un-disclosed.

A true PITA!!

When I looked at the service record it did say there was a ghost immobiliser fitted however when I asked about this and whether it was still fitted, I was told no it had been removed.

Maybe that’s not the case. I’m not sure how I could’ve driven the car back over an hour at motorway speeds and it shut down and started a few times at the dealership..

Lost count the number of them that I see with that initial complaint is all; first question to Service Advisor - Ghost? Then 5 minutes later they've phoned the customer.

I suppose a PVTS (tracker) may do the same also - did they give you any driver cards??

Check any card is 'ON' and retry?

They gave me two other little black things, but they said it wasn’t activated. They’re not in the car at the moment, but they were in the car when I drove home so that’s a good shout and I will check those.

If the system is still activated from last owner then it'll need one of the cards present. If it works with a card active and you haven't paid a sub, you'll need to sort that - however, slightly helpfully, with the newer system you can call Vodafone and they can activate the car temporarily (if cards are unavailable/lost/stolen for example) to get you out of a jam.....

I haven’t gone to the car yet, but I’ve checked the app and it doesn’t seem to be active on there so I don’t suspect it’s the issue, but I’ll check when I get home

Shame, sorry it's not a quick fix.

I still suspect the Ghost side of things; they have a habit of sitting dormant after a valet mode setting - until a reset or similar occurs - then it drops into function again. We see it all the time as owners don't mention it in case of Warranty issues. If it has one, without a stand-down code it is doing it's job and won't allow switch-on.

Porsche Assist it to the dealer and get a loan car 'til they sort it.

Out of interest where'd you get it?

When I was looking at the service record, it said that goes to mobiliser only went off at 30 miles an hour. This was from Porsche West London.

If it were the driver cards (PVTS) the error message would be different - "No driver card detected" and a radio antennae icon.

There have been issues with the power button so it could be that as the message suggests..

The immobiliser is entirely separate to any tracker device (all cars these days have immobilisers).

If you want, PM the VIN and I can check if there is anything noted previously.

I did that with one of the guys on this forum - I’ve attached it here seems fairly straightforward though.

Doesn't look like any entries specifically - might be in the notes but can't see them from what's posted.

If it had a Ghost, the VAL would contain specific error codes where the system had been blocked during its' function and then 'healed' thereafter.
