They don't want a skateboard design for the 718. The whole point was to have the batteries mid mounted, where the engine is in the ICE 718. Which led to many thermal and performance issues, being one of the reason given for the bankrupting of Northvolt, who were responsible for the battery design.
Why raise the center of gravity of a sports car by moving the batteries higher?

If Porsche moves away from EV's, I will switch to a different brand which does offer them. While I like Porsches, I am an equal opportunist - I do not buy cars as status symbols or garage decorations, so I choose the best product for me at the time. I loved the 911, but my needs changed, and the Cayenne or Panamera could not compete with the Model S, so I ended up with Model S'es for a decade. I still love driving the Taycan right now, let's see which brand creates the next EV that I want to buy (I switch cars when some new car excites me, or when my car is really old). Sorry Porsche, the butter-smooth EV acceleration and power has spoiled me as far as daily drivers are concerned. When I sold my 911 2 decades ago I remember telling myself that if I ever want a dedicated track car, it will be a 911. Will I ever buy a dedicated track car? I truly don't know as I am getting older and at some point just won't care about having one. And even if I did, I would probably go for a used 911 Turbo one with manual transmission for nostalgia sake.

Skateboard design makes for lower center of gravity and polar moment of inertia but the occupants sit higher the roll center and closer to center of rotation thus giving a different feel. Different does not mean worse from a performance view but these are road cars so other factors are in play.

The Cyberster is only 3.4 cm taller than a Cayman - but with a ground clearance reduced by 1.,7 cm. Carsized comparison.
I suppose a mix of both, skateboard layout but moving a few battery cells that would be below the seats to behind them, could have the best of both - reducing the height increase and still have a low center of gravity.

I just ordered a 2026 911S to replace my '09 997.2S.
I gave up on waiting for the Cayman EV.
I have owned a 2020 Taycan 4S since new, and will replace it with another Taycan at the end of the HV battery warranty, unless a post-warranty service protocol emerges that will allow me to keep my 2020 4S.

In uk supposedly the approved warranty now covers the HV battery.
But it doesn’t cover “aging” defects, which PIWIS seems to classify all defects as aging defects; so seems to be worthless?

As the early Tacans turn 8 years old, I hope that Porsche will offer a solution to those of us who would keep their "vintage" Taycans. A vehicle of this sophistication/expense should not be disposable after 8 years.

But would such higher center of gravity hurt handling? Or are 718 EV's intended mostly for show?
Maybe they are stacking batteries at where the 982's engine is. It helps to reduce yaw moment and make it feel like a cayman, but i would rather take lower center of gravity.

If Porsche is moving away from performance evs, i will look for another brand. SUVs dont cut it for me. I am very looking forward to the upcoming BMW M3 electric.

I never got the Taycan for its badge. It is for its looks and performance. I track my Taycan too.
