The conversation has got nowhere: there is no consensus about anything that's better than the Taycan.

So Plan B:

Keep the Taycan and buy something with real class for your days off ...

Yes, fair point :) especially this year. This is why my Morgan is hiding in storage at the moment. But on a decent Spring/Summer/Autumn day, oh boy is it fun.

You’re getting confused with Ireland!

That's where the misunderstanding lays. The discussion was never about the whole hybrid universe, but concretely about PHEVs: you replied to my comment, which was a direct allusion to the criticism raised by @prj SPECIFICALLY aimed at PHEVs like the new RS6.

This was never about HEVs like the McLaren Artura. Those are, essentially, souped up ICE cars.

As such, my argument still stands: PHEVs are, by design, suboptimal. And for any given usecase, either ICE or BEV is a better solution.
It’s fine if you want to only discuss PHevs.

And with those vs EVs, they’re still cheaper and have been more reliable in every years except 2025.

I completely disagree with your last statement.

They exist because they’re a better choice for SOME. Just like a regular hybrid, they’re a compromise. But then again, every car is a compromise.

Want more power? It’ll cost more money and be less efficient. Want more efficiency? You lose performance.

PHEVs are great for people who want an efficient vehicle that can also have a long range. They’re cheaper and mostly most reliable than a BEV. The tradeoff? Typically won’t get the full BEV driving experience.

That’s why I like the series hybrid over a PHeV. You get the full EV driving experience with the range and ease of fueling of a hybrid.

The downside is complexity and very few models to choose from. They weigh and cost as much as a full EV.

Would I buy one? Only if I needed to drive long distances frequently. But I don’t, so I went EV.

Perfect combo, I also enjoy.
BUT: I am happy to put the 911 in my garage when it comes to daily driving. Taycan is non plus ultra there.
And my feeling got very confirmed in this thread with various alternatives. I wouldn't trade my Turbo S CT for any of them but a J1.2...which I really don't need.

I can speak from my own experience of owning a BMW X5 45e PHEV, and the car has been as reliable as any BMW we have owned, and specifically our 3rd X5. The car is perfect for us, my wife’s daily driving to and from work is about 16 miles, which the X5 provides about 30 miles range on full EV. 95% of our drives are in the city and we are able to cover them on full EV. By no means is it anywhere close to the efficiency of a Full EV, but it works for us and my wife is happy that she can plug it in at home or at work and charge it without going to the gas station. During our out-of-town trips, we use ICE and it is as efficient as our previous X5s. Again, that works for us, and we weren't ready to get a Full EV yet, as I don't want to be forced to stop midway to LA to charge. Our goal when we picked it up was to get from the Bay Area, California, to LA without stopping (360ish miles) and there weren't any options or any that we would sign up for. I personally was looking at a BMW M5T before I got into the Taycan, to be honest. If I didn't get such a great deal on the Taycan, I would have been in the M5T again because it fits my daily commute 100% on EV and has plenty of power on demand. I know it is not apple to apple, but never is. Taycan is unique car, and as mentioned by other there isn't 1 to 1 replacement, you will need to make trade-offs as they fit you.

Years ago I used to do advertising for local car dealers.

I remember asking the owner one day WHY they would trade in a specific car:

It was a bright Yellow 2001 Pontiac Sunfire and the entire interior was covered in purple shag carpeting.

His response? “There’s an ass for every seat.” 😂

The cars wouldn’t exist and wouldn’t sell if they weren’t the perfect car for SOMEONE.

Just another real world example of a PHEv use case-

The Toyota RAV4 Prime.

They also make an ICE version and hybrid version. And basically an EV version (the BZ).

Of the 4? The PHEV Prime is arguably the “one size fits most” of the group when it comes to use cases.

It’s also the model in the highest demand for years. At times there has been a very long wait list to buy one. Very efficient, reliable and not crazy expensive. Plus decent performance to boot.

Totally, we are all here because we have Taycan and arguably love it or we would sell it and move on.

For the OP, is the Audi dealer experience any better than Porsche in the UK?

If so, you could get a J1.2 Etron GT. 🤷‍♂️ just different enough where you don’t feel like you’re buying the same car, but no compromise in driving experience. Cheaper too.

There's no alternative other than a different Porsche.
If for no other reason because it can be ordered mostly just the way you want, excluding PTS constraints, and intermittent supply chain issues (Bose and Burmester in '22).

@Dabz That is what I did. Had a J1.1 Taycan GTS and wanted a J1.2. Local Porsche dealers just weren't interested in getting me an allocation so I could spec exactly the car I wanted. At Porsche prices I want what I want and not the 4S on the lot that they were pushing. Hello Audi. The Audi dealerships might be just as bad for you as Porsche has been but if they are better the e-tron GT is a fraternal twin to the Taycan for a whole lot less money.

So performance stays the same. Build quality stays the same. Less money out of pocket. Prestige probably takes a small hit versus Porsche. So it's kind of how is the Audi customer service in the UK?
