On a lighter note.... drivers in the US (across the pond from EU/UK) should consider themselves lucky...

As a fine example, a Taycan will cost additional £440/ year, every year for the first 5 years as tax. This is in addition to the £333 per year for every 10,000 miles. Go figure !

Have a look on what drivers in the UK pay for road tax, congestions charges, emissions charges, speeding fines, tolls in EU... and you will think US driving costs is heaven ! 😉

Yes quite - the EV advantages are being eroded in the UK . Whilst I still have the Taycan and a small hybrid, I recently traded my hybrid X5 for a diesel X7 as it suits my use case better ie lots of single long journeys in the SUV.

I am in Chile at the moment - where diesel is cheaper than petrol - unlike the UK where taxes distort the market. Will diesel continue to be sold widely? Yes because commercial vehicles are excluded from the 2030/2035 fossil fuel/hybrid phase out dates. So Claude reckons 40% + supply in 2035 will diesel.....One issue however is that certain European cities might ban fossil fuel cars / diesel cars and Comrade Khan can put up the London "congestion charge" - a joke name for what goes on in London...

And if you think the US is difficult; here is another fine example… from France.

A Porsche 911 Turbo S costs about €275,000 (Euros) from the manufacturer; but it costs an additional €80,000 (yes, Eighty Thousand Euros) just to tax/ register it on top of the manufacturer price… 🙈

Enjoy your cars while we still can…
