I make the San Diego <-> Las Vegas trip a lot. The midway point where I usually get gas is a small town called Barstow. It's a bit sketchy but not too bad. Everyone else making the same trip stops there too so there seem to be plenty of people around.

PlugShare shows a few Taycan-friendly charging locations in Barstow. Are there any specific ones that you like/dislike? Would love to hear your thoughts if you make this same journey. Looking for a safe spot to charge, preferably while eating a cheeseburger at one of Barstow's fine dining establishments.

[Taycan TTS at dealer being prepped. Will pickup in a few days!]

The two times I've done the San Jose to Vegas round trip, I used the EA site at Walmart. It's in a decent spot, and not far off the highway. I've even run into other Taycan owners charging there (was Las Vegas owner headed to San Diego)

how was the SJ to Vegas trip? How many charging stops?

Live in North Bay, kids goto college in SoCal, plan to get property in Vegas for retirement. So lots of SoCal and Vegas trips in the next couple of years.

Been doing trips like that in my Model X and it's fine. Wondering how life will be when my 4S CT arrives. Was thinking of sticking with Tesla for the Vegas trips, but if charging is not a problem at all, then CT will my become road trip car.

Thanks.

Because the Taycan was new (I literally went a week after getting the car), I did 3 stops both ways for both trips.

It's around 244 miles to Bakersfield from my house, so the trip is likely doable in one stop if you start at 100% from both sides. The EA station in Bakersfield is small, and I was concerned what to do if it was busted. The extra stops gave time to go to the bathroom. I'd consider doing it in 2 stops next time, as it's possible to stop a bit farther south on 5 and then again in Baker now.

Always worth a stop in Baker. Not only is there an Alien Beef Jerky store there, but it's the home of the world's largest thermometer.
