Total BS.
Technically it's not even possible.
HOW do they come up with this shit? Lol! :)
That writer must be laughing his pants off right now!
This looks surprising but apparently totally true. Several sources confirm the news.

Ok, so you install fake chips to be replaced later on?
How?
Chips are integrated in circuit boards and can't be "switched" for real ones...
That's utter bs but a great story nevertheless!
You think Porsche will sell cars that doesn't have the options selected working just because they use fake chips on circuit boards?
Really?
C'mon man, nobody here is THAT stupid...

I perfectly know what is chip. This could be possible for certain non vital modules.

Here is the original source which is a SERIOUS newspaper.

So can you please continue to be nice and polite and stop having your superiority air when you disagree on something ?

Thank youuuuu ?

To put it in the most respectful way: it does sound a little bizarre. Maybe Blume - if he would have stated this - means something else with "dummy chips", such as provisional placeholder circuit boards or something?

It's lost in translation. The Taycan has 100s of steps as it moves through the various avenues of their zuffenhausen production facility in Stuttgart. A semi conductor shortage in 1 step shouldn't delay the entire assembly process so they may be building the unit to completion or near completion and then going back and retrofitting placeholder 'dummy' chips with the real chip when they get deliveries of those from Japan.

I strongly doubt they would ship a car to a customer that lacks chips and then force a recall next year. Its worse than just asking the customer to wait 6 months longer owing to the semiconductor shortage.

If it was Tesla, maybe a chip here or there is fake but Porsche, unlikely.

Indeed, as I had commented once before I’m not sure too many stevedores are skilled in surface mount soldering techniques.

I think the Press is just leaving out a bunch of details just so they can write “chips” when they really mean “systems in need of chips”.

Something is probably being lost in translation here (meaning the press is sensationalizing things to get clicks/reads - not that they'd ever do that). Could be as simple as Blume describing what they've been doing with the electronic steering columns. And somehow that is described as installing "fake chips." Let the conspiracy theories begin.

I agree with your theory. My salesman told me that since there is a shortage of the steering column adjustment chip that my steering is not going to be adjustable when I get it in a couple of days. It makes sense to me that rather than just have a hole where the controlling chip would be, they have put in a dummy chip that can be swapped out for a functioning chip when they are available. I can't (don't want to) believe that Porsche is doing this with any chips that play a more serious role in managing the operation of the vehicle.

Absolutely true. This is what we see when cars arriving with lack of functions. Those cars have so called 'fake chips'. On the other hand it is not cheating but a simple technological solution keeping other parts working in the electric system. Additionally easier for service centers to 'retrofit' cars when semi-conductors are arrive.

They are shipping cars with lack of functions?! I have not heard of this. My car is being produced in September.

For my part, it sounds serious. Yet "fake chips" just is suggesting
prejudicial something fraudulent.
A more benevolent translation might be place holder chips" / "dummies", implanted in order to keep the production flow up and running, allowing to retrofit it at a later pre-deliver stage. Still difficult to imagine, but for sure it's not something "smelly".

Fake chips lol.. It's a placeholder adjustment. A lot is lost in translation.

We're buying a new Cayenne S.. It also has the steering adjustment unavailable. Will be updated/fixed at no cost when required chips etc are available. Fwiw they did negotiate a great price when I pretended to be shocked by the lack of that function

"it doesn't have what?! Is this a Suzuki Cayenne? I'm appalled I tell you, appalled"
