I wish the EA folks would do whatever it is that their cousins at Ionity are doing, because here in the US their network is quite flawed. at this point in life such a radical move is not likely. anyway I prefer the weather in spain, it is more florida like than switzerland
Yes but no skiing in winter! I guess you can’t have everything…

10% to 60% charge in 11 minutes - slows down a bit after 60%. This is one of the biggest advantages over the old Model X!

Perhaps it's regional with EA. I'm in the Atlanta area. Since I got my Taycan in late June, I'm still at 100% success with Plug and Charge in 14 sessions at 5 different EA locations.
you're a lucky guy, so far I've had issues in most of FL, and on the I95 corridor. so that region encompasses a good sized region.

living in spain would be like living in florida where all my ski trips require travel.
in the last few years I've skied colorado, utah, france, austria and of course my last trip was to zermatt where I got out three days before they shut things down because of covid.

I hear you. This was from my most recent Tesla fast charging session. It shows 61kw. The max should be 150kw but since this was a heavily used super charger, I would expect it to be lower.

I’m going to ask about the elephant in the room. If you’re a self proclaimed Not-A-Car-Enthusiast, why are you buying a Taycan? Pretty much the main draws of the car are it’s driving enthusiast handling, feel, etc.

There are more techy, reliable, and dare I say cheaper cars for those who don’t want the enthusiast factor.

officially there are no cars there, especially in town. many people park in visp and train it up. I was with a tour of 40+ people so we bused from geneva to the visp train station. but if you look around in the outer parts of town you'll see a few parked cars. locals I suppose

Big true. Anything over 100kw in a Tesla last for just a minute or two, and it drops off from there.

if I got over 90kw it was a big deal, most charges were around 70+ kw. and the fact that many times you'll be sharing the charger slows things down.
there are new version 3 chargers that supposedly but I never ran into one

Just charged our Model X for a few minutes before we sell it tonight. 30% SOC, car was warm, on a 250kw charger...didn't peak over 70kw.

Those are fair questions.

So I wanted to move to an EV for a number of reason and realized I really need to upgrade my current car. I test drove a Tesla but didn't enjoy how it handled (hated the braking). I also didn't like how it looked. Then I went to look at E-Tron Sportback and test drove one. It was very cool and I almost pulled the trigger but just wasn't that sexy looking or fun to drive.

I have always loved the look of the Porsche. When I saw that a Taycan started at $80K (not much more than the Tesla or E-Tron Sportback), I was curious and took a test drive. I was just blown away. Almost an eye-opening experience. Just so much fun, even more so than my friend's 911 Turbo which I have had the pleasure of driving for weeks at a time. For me, I didn't see the 911 as a daily driver. Just not a comfortable experience. My wife hated the 911 (too loud and the shifting too jerky). My wife loved the Taycan and the fact that it is a 4 door. She encouraged me to treat myself.

From there I started researching the Taycan and got excited. This has almost become a new hobby. That is why I keep adding options the more I learn.

So I am going 0 to 60 in my enthusiasm.

I think this website and many of the posters here have highlighted pretty well that a lot of folks are in the market for a stylish EV that has more polish than the closest competitor. Just the Taycan sales alone demonstrate that, and many of them are first time Porsche owners.

A RWD Taycan or CT4, handle better than a similarly priced Tesla S, and the fit and finish is on a different level, not to mention it is hands down a much nicer vehicle to look at. Sure the Tesla hits harder off the line (at least initially and only when topped off), but the novelty of that is only worthwhile a handful of times. Anyone with launch control/chrono can tell you they use it for the steering dial. The launch itself might be used a handful of times when new or showing off the car, but seldom in the day to day. For the day to day, the Taycan is just so much more comfortable and still has more than enough power for everyones daily needs.

I'm sure when when other luxury makers nail an EV well, you will see some migration, but right now there are really only two choices when it comes to top tier EV's, and the Porsche is just a much nicer car.

Still welcome any further thoughts.
I saw lots of comments about the performance or AWD difference between the RWD and 4S, but I didn’t see anyone mention the regen, so I thought I’d point it out and add it to the list.

Since the RWD doesn’t have a front motor, it can’t use regen to brake the front wheels. So, any front wheel braking will be with friction brakes, which means more wear (quicker replacements) and more brake dust on the front wheels for the RWD car. And braking dynamics suggest this is where most of the braking will occur.

Just look at the size of the front brakes vs the rear brakes as well as knowing that the AWD uses twice as much regen on the front vs the rear.

Not saying that’s a reason to not get a RWD. Just adding it to the list. ?

Model 3 SRP brakes are lasting 100k miles - that's a single motor too. Not saying there's more or less at play with the RWD Taycan but it's worth noting.
