I also love dog mode in my Model X. The workaround with the Taycan is to turn it on with Connect app, but this should be available with a button in the screen...
It is!
I just pointed that out.
My god....??‍♂

I am getting a Taycan partly because there is nothing on any of the Teslas I have looked into that appeals.
Since I don't even find radar controlled cruise or lane nudges on the steering wheel anything but irritating in my current car I haven't selected any of that sort of thing in my Taycan order, just torque vectoring, active anti roll bars and 4 wheel steering, all of which are things they have done for years on other models.

I don't consider a Taycan as an alternative to any of the Tesla models here in the UK personally, it has a completely different set of strengths and weaknesses.

Apples to oranges. No way I'm paying $110K+ now for a Model S. (plus I hate the new dash)

I have a Taycan RWD on order, and have a Tesla Y as my daily driver now. This being my first Tesla, here are some of the things I appreciate the most which I’ve never had before in a car:

- my iPhone is my key and the car locks when I walk away and unlocks when I’m next to the car (no buttons to push)
- auto steer on open roads is great to reduce fatigue (just as cruise control did 20 years ago)
- the car has WiFi connections at my home and office so software updates happen seamlessly.

I’m a big believer in lane departure warning (I believe this saved me from a highway accident a few years when driving a rented Toyota), but the Tesla implementation does not work all the time so I don’t trust it.

Some of the things which make me crazy:

- phantom drain: I don’t have sentry mode turned on, yet I seem to be losing 3% charge per day. I only charge my Y once a week, which means I’m losing 21% of my charge due to phantom drain. I got 125 miles of range on my old BMW i3 and on the Y I barely get 200 miles on a charge. I was sold on a huge increase in range, but I’m not seeing that.
- the center screen on the Y is where most of the car information and controls are. This creates a system where you need to look toward the middle of the dashboard just to see what your speed and state of charge are. I feel this is dangerous. To change the speed of the windshield wipers, you need to push a button on the steering wheel stalk then look at the center screen and pick the speed. Now, people tell me all the time “use voice control to change wind shield wiper speed”, and that’s fine when voice control works. Many times I get a “Not connected” message meaning that the cellular signal is not working and voice controls won’t work. Dangerous!

Don’t get me wrong: the Tesla is a good car. It’s just not a great car. But I agree with other posters in this thread: whether you like it or nor, automobiles are becoming more software based and if Volkswagen doesn’t step up their software game, they will continue to be left behind on software based features customers will require when shopping for a new car. Having a great driving car with few “creature comfort” features will mean Porsche will attract customers who want to drive their cars on a track, but won’t attract customers who want to drive on a highway.

I truly hope Porsche/Volkswagen steps up their software game.

I owned a 2019 Model 3 for a bit and a 2020 Model 3 for 1.5 years. Have plenty of time with Model S & X as well. I agree, good cars not great cars. My 2020 didn't even have the driver side door sill plate installed from the factory! I'm not willing to deal with paint flaws, rattles, sub-par materials, terrible service. Tesla held me over until Taycan RWD was released - I've always been a Porsche guy.

I did love phone key feature and I hear BMW has it coming soon and it is GREAT thing. Hopefully Porsche will offer that in the future. I don't have major issues with the software my 2021 RWD. In fact the only software issue I had was SAT radio stopped working 2 days after delivery. (now fixed) That said the interface could use some changes to make certain functions more seamless (i.e. charging menu)

Partially agree and partially disagree. The Taycan is a direct competitor to the S...by design.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - Tesla fanboys hee and haw over how great their car is....1,000 miles on our new Model Y Perf (our third Tesla) and the screen has blacked out twice for upwards of 10 minutes each time. I have had this screen issue, phantom drain, and half shaft issues on EVERY Tesla I have owned.

SAME issue as our 2020 X had - the clicking and popping in the front suspension is prevalent in the Model Y.

The tech in the Tesla is great when it works. My fiancee isn't into cars and this stuff doesn't bother her - that's Tesla's market.

Never heard that before,
It isn't much like a Tesla model S IMO.
Lots of arguing about this, but for people who categorize cars according to their "police description," and that is a lot of people, it is true.

Police description: Four door, electric car, approximately 200 inches in length, [Insert approximate model year]. Tesla Model S, Porsche Taycan, Audi E-Tron GT all fit this police description.

The policeman that stopped me today actually commented on how much better my Taycan was than any Tesla he has pulled over. That was the only thing we agreed on during our conversation.

Did the superiority of the car get you some leniency? That would be some testament to the superiority!

For once I wasn’t stopped for speeding, car was showing as uninsured. The police database can take upto 24hrs to show updates apparently.

The more I read threads on this forum the more I think the US take on cars is unique!

No, it is not. A button almost hidden with pre cool/pre function inside the battery menu is very far from dog mode...
