Porsche Class Action Lawsuit Alleges Repair Monopoly
Porsche Cayenne owner complains customers cannot use independent repair providers.

A Porsche class action lawsuit alleges vehicle owners are forced to use Porsche dealers for repairs at an increased cost compared to hiring independent repair providers.

The lawsuit is an antitrust class action that contends Porsche has an illegal monopolization for repair services.

The Porsche class action lawsuit includes:

"All persons and entities in the United States who paid a Porsche-authorized dealer to perform repairs or maintenance services on Affected Vehicles."

The “Affected Vehicles” are defined as all vehicles sold by Porsche between January 1, 2021, to the present.

Although they correctly assert Porsche seeks to restrict Porsche service and maintenance to their dealer network, there appears to be 3rd party solutions to at least the Cayenne oil change reset asserted in the lawsuit:

I think it is healthy to the brand and the customer base to have solutions for maintenance and repair outside the dealer organizations.

Indeed, it will be interesting to see how this develops, and if it will influence Porsche in Europe too, since we don't have exactly the same "class action" process (we may get there someday soon though). In the end with all manufacturers it's always about "if we don't do it ourselves we don't trust others will do it properly, so you loose whatever warranty you have left".
For many brands, once you're out of the short initial warranty period it doesn't matter much, but the "Porsche Approved" extension is quite unique (to my limited knowledge), so I hope they'll find a way to still apply that excellent policy, while authorizing 3rd party repairs

I would like to see if any of my assorted scanners would reset a modern Porsche. My bet is all of them would do it without an issue. This is not new.

None of them would do it starting from MY2024.

The lawsuit starts at model year 2021. I will try my scanners on the next dealer loaner I get.
2021 has no real limitation as to what can access the car. The fully locked down diagnostics start from MY24 after which you can not do anything apart from reading/clearing codes and reading measurement data without a cryptographic unlock of the gateway.

Little investigation and all one needs to do is buy a security token. Big whoopty.
You can not buy a "security token", that loophole was closed (and was really only relevant for VWAG, not for Porsche). You're not doing anything on a MY24+ without PPN.

Morgan and Morgan lol. They are the firm doing the lawsuit. They are the firm with all the TV commercials here in the USA.

Porsche Accused of Turning Service Into a Dealer Monopoly
Don't be surprised to see the story slip into the abyss as it's covered up in an effort to maintain brand integrity; OEMs have huge budgets to spend to help keep their reputation intact should something like this arise.
The good news is that there's already a bill in the works to prevent situations like these. It's called the Right to Equitable and Professional Auto Industry Repair (REPAIR) Act, and it would prohibit a scenario like this from happening in the first place, thereby protecting consumers against manufacturers and OEMs that have significant leverage over "the little guy."
Naturally, the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) is opposed to this bill, and it has stalled slightly in the House Energy and Commerce Committee. We hope to see it pass in the coming months.
