What will you do with your Taycan after year 8?

I get a real kick out of the idea that a guy my age drives a car like this. Another new car has lost appeal in the same way that foreign travel has lost its luster. I worry about the car, but got the warranty. If I were 40 years younger, I would probably graduate to the next greatest thing. Right now, I like the car, take pride in its ownership and (minimal) upkeep, and will probably keep it until I (or it) stop driving. After that I’ll probably take the bus around here (or walk), or a train for longer trips. It’s a nice car.

When I needed to justify the Taycan to someone I said "I needed something really cool before my wife takes my driver's license away."

No, this wasn’t a dealer reading. I used a OBD reader on my 2021.

I’m not sure how to go about asking a dealer for that information. Perhaps someone else on the forum can tell you.

Hi JK, I’m having the same conversation with myself right now. I own a 2021 RWD CPO with only 16,000 miles on it. Inside and outside, the car is in “like new” condition. I have two thoughts on this right now. The first is to purchase a Porsche extended warranty as far out as it will go just prior to my CPO warranty expiring. In this scenario, I would keep the car until it the cost to repair it ends up being greater than the cost to keep it. My second thought is to also purchase a Porsche extended warranty just before my CPO warranty expires, and then trade my 2021 in at the end of the eight-year mark for a 2026 model with a similar profile to the car I have now. That is, buy a one-owner CPO with low miles and a great service history. I would then repeat my Taycan ownership cycle, but with a 2026 model. What are your thoughts on this?​

Thanks Rob, sounds like we're thinking along similar lines. I just received a couple of better than expected quotes on replacing my car's brake pads (Indie shop) and extending my warranty period out 2 or 3 years, which would significantly reduce my outlay for keeping the car from what I previously thought. So that's a plus for keeping it.

Or I could put that cash towards a trade-in/trade-up to a newer model. Though I haven't really found one that makes sense financially - unless I can get a sweet trade in deal on my current Taycan. So maybe I'll extend out to 8 years like you mentioned and repeat the cycle. My big worry there though is the trade-in value of the car at that time.

Owner of a 2020 Taycan Turbo, which I bought off-lease in 2024. It's relatively low mileage, at 30K. The CPO warranty is expiring soon and I'm on the fence on trading it in (for a low mileage Macan 4s perhaps) or extending warranty coverage out to 8 years, replacing the PSCB pads, and keeping it. But also wondering what happens then? I know these won't depreciate to $0, but will they be worth much for trade in or resale at that point? Without a battery warranty is the likely best choice just to keep driving it until a catastrophic failure occurs? I know there are options to extend coverage beyond 8 years, including the battery, but that doesn't look cheap. Hopefully new pads would be good for another 4 years at that point, and rotors still intact.

Interested in what MY20 and 21 owners are thinking. Expecting continued deep depreciation from years 6-8?

Exact same question with my May'20 Turbo, my plan was to sell it about now (bought it Dec'25), but I'll be creating a company soon and it is possible that I bring it as an asset into the company, which will become my company car (provided I buy a small daily car for personal use), which has several positive impacts in my overall plan.
If it was still a 100% "private person" decision, I'd start putting it on sale about now.

That was exactly my thoughts a year ago. Had CT4, my21 (still keeping picture of it), but unfortunatelly, red error… so i upgraded to 4S my25….and i hope it won’t fail till 2030 and beyond.
J1.2 brings lots of enhancements, while J1.1 looks much better

Botrom line: taycan is still the best looking csr, driving it is pure joy…and heads are still turning when crossing by

Once I can no longer extend the warranty, I plan to get it wrapped in a different colour and upgraded with a MapEV tune. Paint the wheels and possibly calipers and maybe even stick a small spoiler on the rear, and give it a new lease of life! There’s no other EV as beautiful that I would want to replace it with….

Why not do those things now?

Paint, wrap and tune have no impact on warranty.

Keep it until the wheels fall off, then put some new wheels on. There's little value in getting money back, but I never got this car thinking I'll trade it back in and get something else, else I would have leased probably.

If 718 EV is any good, trade it in for that. Assuming porsche would take it back.

Otherwise, keep it; and eventually put a 3rd party chinese battery in it for 5-10k. Don't think anyone in the family would say no to getting a free porsche.

I bought it at its year 4, so yeah definitely going to at least double it. I'll still be driving it. For those of us that bought it depreciated already, there's probably less concern about the residual value. I don't really go through cars anyway, so this will be no different. Drive it until the wheels fall off.

Maybe not in the US but under the T&Cs of extended warranty in the UK, these changes could void the warranty

My 23 is about to hit 100.000km. I recently got an offer on trading it in for a 2026 Black Edition. I got offered 50% of the original price so not as bad as I thought.

I use the car for my daily commute (and everything else) so I will eventually have to replace it. With my current use I'll pass the 160kkm mark in two years and will surely replace it before that. Deciding between a lightly used 1.2 or a a more modern car like the BMW i3 Touring. Not sure where it will end.
