Report on a trip to VIR for a track day

I will be there as well if all works out with a car I'm buying for track days. If rooms are available, get a Pit Lane room and charge overnight in the paddock. Or bribe someone to shuttle you between the destination charger and your room and leave it overnight. If I'm there, I'll gladly play...

Report on a trip to VIR for a track day

The CCS charger was removed and replaced with these two Porsche destination chargers. I got it to work once and it was only good for 13 kW so it really wasn't much better. The paddock grid was less heavily used this time than in the past - I was able to get 40A without the PMCC dropping out due...

How long are the tires lasting?

Last track day finally did in the 21" Conti ProContact all seasons at around 7500 miles. Switched to the Pirelli PZ4 NF0 spec and have one more track day this season coming up. Most immediate thing to notice is that the Pirelli 265-35ZR21 up front is wider than the ProContact of the same size...

    Ventilated Seats not working

Yes it's just a fan (no in-seat AC or anything). Yes, if you hear it, it's working. However, the fan is protected by a fuse. If the fuse is blown, no fan.

Also check the fuse. Good to Know app will show you which side of the dashboard and which fuse.

    LTE Dropouts

I have been without LTE (and Bluetooth and Wifi and CarPlay and SOS call and all network related things like telematics and internet radio and weather and news) and interestingly GPS (no smartlift, car position is way off) since mid September. Dialer diagnosed a failed communication module for...

85 % Battery charging - where does this recommendation come from?

I don't think we know if that 15% is at the "top" or "bottom" - meaning is what you see as 100% full really 100% full or is it 85% full? What you see as 0% is it really 0% or is it 15%? Or maybe a mix - like 100% is really 93% and 0% is really 7%? Still I'd have to agree that over 5 years /...

Regenerative Braking - brake lights on?

The brake lights illuminate when the car is decelerating above a certain point (some number of tenths of a G - I don't know what the point is) regardless of why the car is decelerating (e.g. Adaptive Cruise Control or Auto Regen or you pushed the brake pedal). That said, the regen on (not auto)...

How do I get just outside ventilation, No heat or AC?

IIRC Off turns off everything (compressor/heat pump AND the fans). I think you can get what you want in Range mode, which gives you an HVAC menu option for Eco Plus (which does not use the compressor, only outside air). If indeed this is the only way though, that's an annoyance.

A kinder, gentler, smaller, more affordable and useful road-warrior EV charging kit

I don't know if the PCC would reduce the advertised maximum charging current it supports down to 24A in that case (80% continuous load on a 30A circuit). If you had the 14-50 pigtail plugged in, the PCC may think it's fine to pull 40A (80% continuous load on a 50% circuit). On a 30A circuit you...

All 2,200 Polestar 2 Delivered So Far Will Be Recalled

The 12V battery in my 2012 model S was about the size of a PowerSports (motorcycle / PWC) battery. Much smaller than typical ICE starter battery. Quite possible they increased the size since then - but yes mine died in < 2 years the first time and closer to 3 years the second time. Both times...

    Ventilated Seats not working

On the top speed ventilation setting the fan noise is audible. If you don't hear it, then there could be a problem with the connector harness under the seat.

Transmission and recuperation -- can you answer how it works?

Do you have a source for this? Not that I think or know you are wrong, this just seems somewhat counter-intuitive. The larger motor should be capable of more regen than the smaller motor. However, Porsche may choose to allow the smaller motor to do more of the regen since during deceleration...

Glove compartment - what goes in the holder? What am I missing?

I optioned the Turbo S pen which includes special ink for $6400 extra. I think the option code was XTORT. I'm actually using mine to hold a tread depth indicator.

Porsche Mobile Charger Connect (PMCC) - LED light always on when turned "off"?

Having used mine both with and without the sleep setting enabled, I can say that at no point was only the top half circle illuminated. I'd guess this is a circuit board problem - but as long as the EVSE is otherwise working fine, probably not worth worrying about...

Is Taycan Turbo S too much as a daily driver

I have a highly optioned Turbo - only things missing vs. Turbo S are the extra power from launch control and the ceramic brakes, which I could have optioned but even having done a couple track days, the PSCBs with 21" wheels are massive and sufficient even for hard runs, though admittedly I did...

    Cell Phone Connection

Yes - mine's a 2020, recall was performed several months ago without issue. The car has been working great for the past several months until this Bluetooth issue (and a self-induced mechanical problem, not at all attributable to the vehicle design or manufacturing or technology).

    New Porsche Car Charger

Yes on the total kWh delivered. I doubt the battery feels the difference at charging rates < 50 kW. ^ This I have an industrial NEMA 14-50 outlet installed in the garage, specifically so I don't worry about unplugging the PMCC when need to travel with it - which is at most once a month. Same...
