Broken VLC Variable Light Control roof example on new Taycan at dealership.

Sod that. I'd prefer a proper opening Pano roof any day of the week!!!!

"Onboard network error" - red - Taycan won't move - battery modules replaced

Sounds like a very quick turn around by Porsche? Good news at least! Crazy low mileage for a failure but it is a 2020 I suppose....

22KW OBC FAILURE INSIGHT & POSSIBLE SOLUTION

That's just a matter of writing the requirements and commissioning a new part from a different supplier. They won't of course. Good money after bad. They'll have done that anyway as Macan has a new 22kW AC OBC Sadly, it won't be backwardly compatible and I suspect Porsche want to forget J1.1...

22KW OBC FAILURE INSIGHT & POSSIBLE SOLUTION

These things are generally defined by corporate boiler plate. Since the platform was shared with Audi, I highly doubt Porsche got their own way here. Mind you, my recent experience with Porsche HVAC flap actuators (internet shows this is a problem going back 25 years or more) shows that...

22KW OBC FAILURE INSIGHT & POSSIBLE SOLUTION

Yes I know. I'm in the EU. The point is they fail EVEN ON SINGLE PHASE. There are huge failure mode areas that have simply not been validated. They blow up even when never connected to three phase. 🤷‍♂️ And of course they absolutely blow up on three phase too. My 11kW has done just the same...

22KW OBC FAILURE INSIGHT & POSSIBLE SOLUTION

Exactly, these things are normally pretty reliable. Chargers aren't always as simple as you might think! Lots of things (especially harmonics!) can kill them. It all smacks of (like the ridiculous burning battery to precondition when hooked to shore power glitch) of insufficient (or more...

22KW OBC FAILURE INSIGHT & POSSIBLE SOLUTION

It's probably because as I said above, a higher capacity part doesn't fit the existing package so the a wholesale re-design is needed.

22KW OBC FAILURE INSIGHT & POSSIBLE SOLUTION

It very much depends on the supply contract between Porsche and Metasystems. They are all different. For a small company to bear ALL warranty cost including all the labour at dealers globally (quite out of their control) would be insane. I don't know of ANY Tier one that would accept that...

22KW OBC FAILURE INSIGHT & POSSIBLE SOLUTION

It's a 32A charger. You cannot fit 32A silicon. Thermal derate of the devices alone will mean they are operating at or beyond their limits as soon as they warm up! Should be 40 or 60A minimum. It's a question of what's available in the same form/fit/function package so it can be retrofitted...

22KW OBC FAILURE INSIGHT & POSSIBLE SOLUTION

It''s never that simple. Porsche will have specified the requirements. That will have included sign off and acceptance specs. This is a Tier 1 part. Porsche is ultimately responsible for 1) not defining the test cases correctly 2) not thinking about single phase use on a three phase charger...

EU/UK: Ongoing navigation issues [Solved with PCM v3892]

Just terribly poor software development and validation. Bet they didn't validate it properly with charge planning enabled. Cariad is truly hopeless. However Porsche AG CS are not much better. I'm tempted to write a Christophorus style spoof article showing what real ownership of Taycans is like.

EU/UK: Ongoing navigation issues [Solved with PCM v3892]

Works fine with the charge planner off but then that's zero use for a stress free 750 mile drive whereas the 8 year old 145k mile Tesla (which has already had three OTA updates this year - three more than the Porsche has had in two years ownership!!!) just worked without any issue at all. It...

EU/UK: Ongoing navigation issues [Solved with PCM v3892]

Mine was fine until the BMS update and is still broken after 3885 and I've tried two finger reboots as well. Still completely unreliable. Can't even go to the next town without it falling over.

EU/UK: Ongoing navigation issues [Solved with PCM v3892]

Good question. Luckily the new CEO of Porsche is an old colleague. Given I dumped the Taycan for the 8yo Model S for the Swiss ski trip last week, I shall be forwarding him a link to this thread and asking him this very question. I'd rather never recieve another copy of Christophorus EVER but...

EU/UK: Ongoing navigation issues [Solved with PCM v3892]

Exactly, same as Tesla did on Model S with MCU1 to MCU2, most people paid (a nominal sum) to have it upgraded rather than just the bare minimum fix when given the opportunity to do so. Sadly, Porsche can't get in that modern mindset, they are still stuck in the "if you want new stuff, buy a...

    Retrofit 22KW charger

Is it the same part though? or has it been re-designed/re-engineered/up-issued/alternate supplier? A reliable 22kW OBC would be great!
