this now closed thread documents another case of a Porsche software update nerf'ing a 2024 Taycan
prior the update car charged at 11 kW just fine
after the update max charger rate is 9.6 kW
as to why/how Porsche targeted this VIN that's undisclosed…...
this thread and like all road lead back to Rome…
there is nothing new in this thread that isn't already covered in these existing threads:
https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/threads/observed-behavior-north-american-2020-taycan-has-max-11-kw-l2-charger-48-amps-not-max-9-6-kw-40-amps.1793/...
my range is for "thought process only" - only Porsche _KNOWS_ the range of vehicle's they intend to do this for - and they have not disclosed how, why they are doing this and what criteria - maybe it's only being done to Taycan's that have OBC's made between X & Y date from supply change vendor...
Porsche has always controlled the software that controls the OBC - this is no different to them than changing the configuration for high beam brightness, fuel flow change for engine idle or any other ECU software that is part of all modern vehicle's
it's their OBC, it's their OBC software and...
if we're going to make any progress on this issue terminology and precise usage is going to be required.
there are two components at work here:
the Onboard charger which is a factory installed unit (OBC) - this is the AC/DC converter installed at the factory and is responsible for charging the...
North American Taycan's used to charge at 11 kW on single phase in North America - there is ample proof dating back to late 2019 with the first deliveries of North American Taycan's…it's a recent undisclosed/undocumentec software change to cap the maximum charge rate in North America at 9.6 kW…...
Porsche "knows" what changed - so far they have refused to disclose:
that this is being done
the reasons it needs to be done
it's a "silent" downgrade…
one can reasonably speculate as to their motivations to do this - but it's much much much more difficult to get them to admit they are doing...
mostly the price - the Taycan is too expensive for what it is … I didn't get my 2nd Taycan because of the price…my local dealer says I'm not alone and he would have 2x or 3x the sales with more reasonable prices - not out of line with prices between 2020-2023
you can't say there is a down turn...
lease a J1.2 - and consider the new generation in late 2028 - they will announce in fall of 2027 - deliveries of the new generatoin won't occur until 2nd 1/2 of 2028 - about the time a 3 year lease will be running out…
I see no reason to wait nearly 3 years for a car if you want a Taycan now…
just checked North American configurator - no listed 19.2 kW option for Taycan or Macan…
it _IS_ listed as an option for the Cayenne EV…in North America
Cayenne EV - Panamera is last decades technology - Cayenne EV is the future…active ride, augmented HUD, and simply saying an EV drive train is the best choice for any non-track use - ICE drive trains are just so terrible for the vast majority of street legal driving…and it's not like the...
I agree 100% - but so far I haven't been able to get an answer from Porsche as to if the unit is a new and improved model or just the same defective design we're all deeply familiar with…
I was surprised to see it as a build option on the Cayenne configurator (it's present in the North American...
the new 2026 F1 engine regulations are causing problems for the best driver's in the world - because depending on the state of the battery (how full or empty it is) they are getting different levels of braking into the braking zone and corner entry - they are locking up tires because there is no...
nov. 2023 - their business model is in trouble…
2+ years late it does appear Porsche's business model is premised on internal combustion motors…they have no mojo or pricing freedom in EV-land…
Porsche needs eFuel's because it's the only way they get to keep making mechanically complex machines that leverage their core competencies and provide a sufficient technical "moat" that they lack competition and can maintain pricing independence … the democratizing of performance that go along...
my quote above 2 years prior to Blume's quote below…
Oliver Blume realized this about 2 years after I posted this…EV's are hostile to Porsche's business model…
