The difference between economist and engineering thinking. Electricity costs more per kWh/BTU than fuel, so heating your house with fuel is cheaper than heating your house with (resistance) electric. Start to factor in (and mentally internalize) just how much more efficient an electric motor is...
A good article re: overall costs, and particularly energy costs:

It's almost laughable to me that someone would run a calculation that ended up with...
What evidence, though? Your personal vehicles?

I see it as one of those "next highest nail" engineering problems. Tailpipe emissions? Solved. So now what's the next thing that needs to be fixed for BEVs to be cleaner? Tires? Brakes? Batteries? Once you solve the biggest problem, the next problem becomes the biggest problem.
This kind of "carbon" is CO2- it's a gas, not a particles or briquettes, and it's not poisonous. Accumulation high in the atmosphere threatens the existence of humanity due to climate change, and that's why EVs are so important. I agree with you there.
But comparing the mass of emitted...
Not trying to be pedantic, but... carbon emissions are of course a problem, because they lead to climate change / global warming, and yes tailpipe emissions cause local particulate toxicity. Tire emissions are toxic particles that get into the water and poison animal and plant life, and they are...
I am fully convinced, as an owner of three EVs, that they're overall more fun *and* better for the environment.
My point here is that, if it is in fact to a degree up to us as early adopters to win people over, we won't do it by denying the real downsides of EVs that do still exist. That just...
Like I said in my original post, "I am willing to accept poor track performance, and the overall tradeoffs are good for everyday use." The same argument applies to road trips.
But when it comes to this debate that people have, I think it does make sense to acknowledge the downsides when they...
I agree that "with time" it'll get better, but right now you can't really have a real track day with a Taycan. I have the Turbo, it's fast at first, then I lose my AC, then it gets slower, and there's no practical way to charge it at almost any track. And on the track, you *do* feel the weight...
Well, for now, some things are true: EVs are heavier, so there's more tire pollution and it takes more tech to make them fun to drive. They in fact do not make great track cars yet, even a Taycan. And they do in fact suck for road trips, because charging infrastructure is poor in most places...
It really does look like you're hooked up to the RV in that first pic!
Really nice pics, and thanks for sharing. I love heading to Sonoma on the hot days and being able to leave the AC running without idling an ICE.

This one is a zero-nonsense (no adjustable rates etc. as far as I know) simple, reliable product. They just work. It's expensive but you'll have an industrial-grade charger that works with almost every vehicle out there. I saw...
FWIW, I’m still rocking the three in the back and we’re all loving it. We also have a 3-row SUV and we now only use it when we need >200 mi of range or >5 ppl.
Thanks for mentioning that- I should have said that my kid is 8 years old *and* 4' 10" so meets the California requirement either way. But, in our Subaru back seats, he still needs a booster (though not technically by law) because the seatbelt exits are much higher.
The shoulder belt exits are pretty low, so you may find that you don’t even need the boosters. For my 8-yo, he’s a tall one, but sits without booster in the Taycan back side seats and the shoulder belt is over his shoulder (not neck), so that’s good.
I’d advise don’t buy any new seats until the...
The Foonf doesn’t interfere with the headrest- it’s still on in the pic attached. I have definitely installed the other front facing car seats (Chicco, Evenflo, Costco) where I did have to remove the headrest to get it to sit flat against the back. In some cases, that is definitely the way to...
Yeah- you need the Fllo for the center. I tried with the Foonf and it was a no-go. This configuration is the culmination of a couple of months of trying several different car seats in several different orders in the back. I look forward to the day when I never have to install a car seat again...
It’s been working great, and the kids LOVE getting into the Porsche. The CT doesn’t have a low roofline, particularly with the glass pano! luckily the older kid helps with the baby- he’s sitting right next to her. Wife would never stand for a minivan!
