New Porsche Recall/"Stop sell" - any details?

"Bank holiday" is a UK English term that actually refers to public holidays, and that officially translates to "legally mandated holiday" in German. Germany (especially South Germany) has a lot of holidays every year, and it is actually illegal to open during those except for some specific...

Taycan Turbo Sport Turismo arrives in the cold and dark!

You can also squint to the point where your eyes are juuuust barely open, and everything is a blurry mess. The lowpass filter make your brain "forget" that you're looking at a shadow. Works well for me, the two colors look completely different when looking at it normally, identical if I squint...

Taycan Turbo Sport Turismo arrives in the cold and dark!

Yes! My Boxster was a "black hole" inside the car. A little contrast goes a long way!

    Suncoast Screen Protector Set

I bought the following (pricey!) screen protector set, and figured I would write a short review: https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/spftay.html I bought the set mostly because the stock screen surface shows fingerprints like crazy (especially the lower screen), but also because I'm a bit...

A modest proposal…NCAS port in North America on the driver's side…

I wonder how they do it then, they must have crazy low resistance. If my math is right, even a 0.1 ohm resistance means you're dissipating around 9kW of heat. That's about what AC charging gives you in NA! Now that I think of it, this is entirely DC, so there is no skin effect, and the cables...

A modest proposal…NCAS port in North America on the driver's side…

Honestly, I would have expected those to be thicker. But they are probably chock full of expensive and heavy copper, and get pretty hot? Do you know if they are cooled somehow?

    Changing sat-nav 'Home' address?

Ah, yeah, I understand now! I had the exact same problem when I got the car and wanted to get rid of a phone that we paired as a test in the device menu. I desperately looked for the submenu or whatever that would allow me to delete the entry, until I figured out I could just swipe right there...

AC, yes. AC is easy. Barely an inconvenience. It's DC fast charging where things get really crazy really fast, see my post immediately before. I'm not saying it's necessarily infeasible, and maybe Porsche will do it, but... I'm not holding my breath, and I'm skeptical of the necessary tradeoffs.

    Changing sat-nav 'Home' address?

Literally the list where you select a favorite as a destination (after you pressed the "star" icon), is where you swipe left on a favorite to delete it. As for the "Home" and "Work" destination in the leftmost pane, there is an "Edit Address" and "Delete Address" under the item's respective...

A modest proposal…NCAS port in North America on the driver's side…

I don't know. Much unlike the relatively low-voltage, low-current AC charging, DC charging is at 800V with mindblowing amounts of current, upwards of 300A at the full charging speed the Taycan supports! There is a reason those 270kW-capable DC cables at the charging stations are so hefty and...

Best Taycan entry point? Need your advice.

It's worth noting that this only matters if they break down. The rotors for PSCB last virtually forever, it's very unlikely that you ever, ever need to replace them for wear... on an ICE. On an EV with regenerative breaking, which does not even use them most of the time, that is even more true...

Best Taycan entry point? Need your advice.

Same, for pretty much the exact same reasoning. I figured, the Turbo is the fastest already. With the Turbo S, I'd just pay a massive premium for "slightly faster launch control". I haven't used launch control once, so far... I probably will eventually, but it's at most a once in a blue moon thing.

Alea yacta est. the dice has rolled…

Indeed... I also tried to keep mine as boring and "discreet" as possible, going so far as removing the Turbo badge, and yet in just the past two days I twice got unwanted attention from pedestrians, just driving the short route from my home to the freeway entrance. When I park the car in front...

    Changing sat-nav 'Home' address?

Probably could have swiped left on the entry (which is the standard "delete" gesture on touch screens nowadays... try it, it wants confirmation anyway) instead.

One week after 6 years in Tesla Model S to Taycan Turbo

I'm completely with you. ACC is still a very simple thing: It will use radar to gradually adjust speed to the car in front of you, if there is a car in front of you. There is no magic about that, and the car's inertia and rate of change is such that even if the ACC does something "weird" (I...

Overwhelmed by options available Taycan Turbo

I don’t know top of the head but I think it’s standard on the Turbos, and an upgrade on some of the other trims, e.g. on the RWD Taycan it’s an upgrade. I got the Burmester and it’s really nice, but you have to really want it, it’s expensive, and it made used car shopping much harder since it’s...
