If you decide to get the VAG part and it fits, please leave feedback. They are like 60 cents, so probably doesn't hurt to try it at least. From pictures it looks extremely similar in size, but could easily be that it's too loose, or that the plastic hook doesn't fit over it...

Here's a photo with some measurements:

No idea if correct.

Ok, if that doesn't work, then here's a site of what I mean by universal fit fasteners:
https://vehicleclips.co.uk/collections/fastener-types

I just found a "screw type" which was super tight, so what I did was use a rubber mallet to hammer it in just enough where it was solid, but the head was sticking out enough to fit the hook over it.

Was easy with a parts store because they just let me test fit a bunch of them in a parking lot, and I just got the one that was closest.

P.S. I wouldn't change the trim over that. Never mind that it's a stupid price, you also have to disassemble and re-assemble the whole thing which takes way too much time for something so small.

Those parts are not covered by any warranty.
Weird. Why? They don't strike me as "wear & tear". And if their true value isn't even $1, why would Porsche tarnish the rep of the warranty for that?

Not $1. You have to replace both sides of trim, that's at least $300 plus labor, which is around the same.

Also these don't break on their own, you have to apply quite some force to the cover.

I see. Not what I took away from the OP. (Porsche quoted for the replacement of the trim, which OP felt unwarranted.) Perhaps OP should explain how he managed to break them. That said, one of mine has lateral movement that should not exist. Hence my interest in this thread.

Sounds to me like wear on an item where no wear would be expected - warranty.

That said, I think something already happened to them before. They're pretty tough.

You can try, but it wouldn’t be normally covered. Physical damage isn’t covered unless it’s from a manufacturing defect.

That’s true of every car.

No different than hitting a pothole and damaging a wheel.

Well - that is the wire act every warranty claim must clear, no? In this instance, it seems to me that Porsche would have to make the case for abuse. As I said, I have one wobbling too. It seems to me that they are not lasting the lifetime of the car, as one might expect.

PS: The fun part in my expectation would be that in the event the Porsche agreed to fix this on warranty, suddenly no new trim is required ;)

New trim would be absolutely required, it is not possible to order the part separately.

Ok - I took from your earlier parts reference that I can just replace the stud.

No that is not a Porsche part, it is a VAG part from an Audi A3 that may or may not fit.
It doesn't even look the same. The part does not exist separately in the Porsche catalogue.
