after market puddle lights - warranty

Folks - Has anyone experience with fitting after-market puddle lights causing warranty problems?

I am considering fitting some - but not if it triggers loss of warranty on electrical/lighting systems -

I could imagine Porsche playing hard-ball on any electric fault claims - given the nature/complexity of Taycan.

Huh, not at all. I can't envisage how a fault would even occur.
I replaced them and it's literally just a different lens cover. Bulb/connector is the same.

I appreciate you being cautious, but this is not a complex mod and involves zero sensors that feedback into anything

An LED bulb is a very simple/straightforward device…unlikely to cause any issues. That said, I would be careful about adding cheap/knock-off electrical components to your new ride. Aside from OEM, I always stick with trusted brands just eliminate the possibility of a dispute.

Put them in my wife's Cayenne. Very simple, plug and play. purchased them from my dealer. If you are worried, I would call your dealer.

you cant just buy them and plug them in if your car was not originally equipped. The harness will not be powered. I checked with a VOM. Turned out (at least for us) car had to be coded with PIWIS. Dealer can do it.

Yes, I just removed the existing lights and they popped into place. It sounds like it may be different for the Taycan???? Do you have lights on the bottom of the door panel now?

From what I've found, You have to have ambient lighting (QQ1) in the Taycan. The "Porsche" light is UD1. I may have misunderstood but are you trying to add basic puddle lights, or the projection lighting? I thought you simply trying to add the UD1 projectors.

If you have the QQ1 puddle lights, these are plug and play. The exact same that I got for the Cayenne.

just replacing plain no-logo puddle lights with non-OEM projector ones - these fit perfectly and have same connections as the originals.

You can buy them specifically for the taycan. They are a direct replacement for the standard 'plain' ones under the door. Some people have done so - unsure how their OPC view any subsequent electrical system warranty claims...

I understand the LED technology is simple - the connections are identical etc - and there is little chance of harm being done to the car - more likely they would simply fail.

My question was more about Porsche's opportunism to use a perfectly adequate but non-approved and non-OEM owner fitted item as an excuse to duck their warranty liabilities. And how that would stand in a legal context.

Anyone got any experience good or bad?

Yes the ones I bought also had the same connector and snapped right in. Problem was there was no voltage being supplied by the car when you opened the doors.

Seeing how they went so far as to intentionally not supply any voltage to that plug unless you ordered the car with puddle lights from the factory, it could be that or just a cash grab for a few extra service $$ for the required PIWIS coding.

I did it on both of my BMW's and had no issues. Worse case save your factory lights and if you run into a problem put your factory lights back in and then take your car in for service. Problem solved
