Another first world problem software moan - ambient lighting

Never gave it much of a thought before...just accepted that the choices on ambient lighting were limited.

Then fiddled with "dynamic" yesterday, and it seemed to settle on a purple colour that my youngest (and I) quite liked.

Why. Oh why. Mr Porsche Software Engineer can I not select purple? Or any RGB colour for that matter, as the hardware seems capable of it.

It must have taken much more dicking about to invent "dynamic" (that is anything but) than it would to have done a colour/intensity wheel, as found on £2 RGB LED strips.

The dynamic lighting picks a colour from the artwork on the song you are listening to. Changes for every track. It is a nice feature which I use all the time. I agree it is a shame that you don't get the choice of some of the colours the system is capable of.

That's a good question. I think it remains on the previous colour, but I generally only listen to Spotify so haven’t noticed what happens when I listen to the radio. I will have a look when I next drive it in the dark and will let you know.

Limited testing, but sound off doesn't matter as long as there's content coming though the PCM.

The radio seems to tweak it according to the station logo unless they are playing a recognised track.

Either way I find it largely pointless, and it does seem to suggest a software team making their lives difficult for themselves! Which we see evidence of all over the place.

Yes it is one large gripe of mine with the car. It makes absolutely no sense why I can’t pick any color I want. They can keep there pre selected but at least give us a color wheel option.

I did a quick test earlier and the colour stayed on the last track colour when I switched to the radio. Only did a quick check, so not extensive. Now the nights are drawing in, I will get to test it more.

I do agree that it would be nice to have a colour wheel, as the car looks great with some of the colours it can generate from the artwork.

To be fair it is better than one of my previous BMW 5 series I had, which only had orange or white....?, although my X5 with the skylounge roof was the best, as the sunroof also lit up in the same colour which gave the cabin a very nice look and feel. Kids loved that.

I'll have a second look, but I think I chose a nice green colour on a colour wheel. Sorry, still getting used to my car, didn't seem noteworthy enough to be bright in my memory. Only after I saw this post I realized that this is new.
