I must be missing something in that I can clearly change to AC/AC ECO mode or turn off AC with climate control/fans remaining on, but the range-o-meter still shows substantial drop in range with what should just be FAN on (AC off, temperature set below actual temperature in car so no heat will run). I'm guessing the range-o-meter is broken assuming that heat might kick in at any time?

Anyone know if I'm missing a way to have fan only (which should draw very little power)? Seems absurd that an EV doesn't have that as a very clear option. Also seems Taycan climate controls are missing a simple toggle for outside or recirculated air (could that be be buried in the various ionizer/... menus?)

FWIW, I have had my Taycan 4S for just over 2 months and very much enjoying it for the most part. Love the handling, the looks, the Bose stereo, the massaging seats, the sports sound, and Android Auto integration. Range is better than advertised (up to 250 miles on standard battery in range mode on highway) but still quite a bit shorter than my (Standard Range) Mustang Mach E RWD or Tesla Model 3 AWD+ before it. My range is hurt around town by the fact that the 4S feels sluggish off the line (and has awkward, almost-ICE-like-delays-to-power if I stomp on it and it has to downshift) unless I drive it in Sport mode (then it feels responsive). It is about 3.6 to 60 with launch mode (according to draggy, 40% SOC, with passenger) so I don't think I have an issue. Other than the fact that my 6 previous EVs all worked well without a gear shift and I mostly drove manual transmission cars before those.

Just go into climate/AC screen and de-select AC.

Air re-circ button is on the lower console screen, upper right.

That's what I've been doing but it doesn't stop the heater from possibly sucking up lots of the battery unless I also turn the temp way down. Even if I turn the temp down the range-o-meter tells me just running the fan is using some 4-6% range so either the calculation for range impact is completely broken, the car has the least efficient fans in the history of motorsport, or it is still using heat or AC.

Thanks for the re-circ reminder ... now that I look again the re-circulation is pretty obvious, but I guess I have been so annoyed about the lack of simple fan only setup I lost that little bit. :)

But still looks like a big miss to not have a HEAT toggle in that stupid OFF ECO AC pop-up.

Again, either I'm missing something or you have to go through hoops : MENU->AC OFF and then turning temperature to something far below any possible interior car temperature to be sure that you aren't draining the battery significantly (as heat or AC do) while moving air around in the car. And then if my wife hits auto we're suddenly sucking the battery down making it cooler than I'd like. Climate control on the Taycan is certainly suboptimal...

The range meter is not an accurate indication of consumption so no need to pay that much attention to it.

Enjoy the car and AC, don't obsess over the range meter lol

I know it's not accurate (not was it in Tesla, Ford, or Chevy EVs I've owned) but it is the only predictor I have apart from battery % .

I'll try not to obsess, but it takes near zero software intelligence to identify only a fan is running and not drop the range estimate at all. I guess that miss and the overall poor user interface for climate control just don't instill confidence, but hopefully I'll be able to let it go as this isn't a long range car no matter what.

You find the car sluggish around town? :CWL:
Sluggish in the sense I floor it and it doesn't immediately give me a strong push, but I have to wait for the dinosaur-paced transmission to shift before I get that... Did I say I've always hated automatic transmissions, as they almost never do exactly as I'd like? But this issue is largely solved by going into sport mode (I wish it could default to sport mode!).

Aside : the Taycan is quick (and feels quicker after 60 mph) than my 2018 Tesla Model 3 AWD+, but the Tesla was far more brutal off the line or when stomping on full throttle anywhere from 10-40 mph. I think Ford and Porsche purposely map throttle response to be somewhere between instant electric and wait-for-it ICE, which saves a lot of stress on tires/joints/... and is not bad... unless the Taycan happens to be in 2nd gear when I stomp on it at 10-40 then I'm not so happy...

If you’re in normal mode, don’t stomp it to the floor, be quick but smooth with your foot and it will rocket away in second. You don’t need to force a downshift to get away very quickly. Even in normal mode, nothing short of a 500hp+ car is going to stay with the 4S off the line. I find this to be the best feature of this car, the ability to place it anywhere in traffic at anytime.

The 2 speed transmission shifts at ~78mph. Our CT4 feels quick off the line and is quicker then traffic around it.

I've read, and the seat of my pants confirms by feel, that the Taycan 4S starts in 2nd gear unless you are in sport or sport + mode at which point it starts in 1st. When not in sport mode and I stomp on it, it hesitates like any auto, downshifts, then gives some good grunt but it is an awkward transition to full power. In sport mode it starts in first and I have no problem with acceleration. I also think it shifts to second much closer to 60 mph.

I think our comparison points must be very different, as certainly even in normal mode the Taycan 4S is quicker than most traffic around it. But almost all EVs are quicker than traffic around them... Even my old Volts were quicker 0-30 than lots of BMW M / Mercedes AMG cars (especially if they weren't in launch mode because they were lined up next to something that didn't look quick).

If I'd never had a Tesla Model 3 Performance (detuned to AWD+) which accelerates much harder at initial throttle application than Taycan 4S and is quicker to 60 by a tenth or two (but slower in 1/4 mile) I would certainly not think the Taycan 4S is sluggish off the line in normal mode. Just found a conservative comparison that shows a bit slower than my Taycan 4S ( https://accelerationtimes.com/models/porsche-taycan-4s ) and again a bit slower than my 2018 Model 3 AWD+ ( https://accelerationtimes.com/models/tesla-model-3-performance ) For reference , my AWD+ Model 3 was 12.0 s and Taycan 4S is 11.8 seconds in the 1/4 mile. Anyway The Taycan is a far nicer put together car, far better looking, but I do wish it didn't have that slush box requiring me to always switch to sport mode or feel it is laggy. I did drive a Taycan Turbo but that car was too brutal (and too much money ... If I needed that much speed I'd have gone with a Plaid)... The Taycan 4S is about right for my needs but only in sport mode.

FYI found an old thread about this and another former Model 3 owner also felt the Taycan 4S was sluggish when not in sport or sport+ mode : https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/threads/hesitation-during-gear-shift.1587/post-20329

The closest you'll get is when in Range drive mode where you can configure AC to be ECO Plus - compressor is off and rear AC disabled (where fitted) if no occupants in rear seat.
